Just looks amateurish.
I knew the one I saw earlier was too good to be true.
This means we're not getting the DC (like the HK DVD) as there are deleted scenes present too.

WTF ?! Why would they mention the remake on that cover ?????

This means we're not getting the DC

I'm not so sure.
I've read that:
-Megastar TC: 113 minutes.
-Megastar DC: 118 minutes.
-Tartan ??: 118 minutes.

Taking into account the NTSC -> PAL difference, we're probably getting the DC with crappy NTSC -> PAL ghosting.

I really hate the idea of having "Andrew Lau's Infernal Affairs III" on the spine as well. I guess its supposed to match but will stand out like a sore thumb since I bought the HK DVDs of 1 and 2.

At least the UK DVD wont have any audio glitches

and have English subbed extras. Pity Tartan couldnt subtitle the commentary though

Oh sweet Jesus.. I noticed that as well. That looks extremely imprefessional since theyre trying to sell you the HK DVD but I guess its trying to appeal to Moe and Joe Tesco.

HKL mention Hollywood flicks in their DVD blurb (you know - Movie X is "in the tradition of" Hollywood flick Y")

Lourdes is better at explaining this stuff than I am, but here goes:

I mean NTSC->PAL Conversion.

Instead of creating a proper NTSC (Film)->PAL transfer (Increasing the framerate from 23.976 fps to 25 fps) Tartan just do a conversion.
They try to fit 24 progressive frames into 25 interlaced frames.
The video becomes a blurry mess.

Same running time between NTSC and PAL = Ghosting problems (usually).

PAL dvds should always be 4% shorter than their NTSC counterparts (unless the NTSC DVD was taken from a PAL source).

Yeah IA2 is worse.

Before we all bash this release it has more extras than the HK DVD which only has the "Behind the scenes" and is strangely on 2 discs. There is no commentary for IA2.

I suspect we will get the DC as only the original HK DVD has the TC & DC. The re-release has only the DC (in the box set).

Sure this cover art looks dodgy but I'll still be getting it over the HK DVD.

People are very hard on Tartan especially considering (even with their faults) no other UK company comes close to their back catalogue of foreign language films.

That doesn't prove we won't get the DC. Many DC's have deleted scenes.

If all DC's just contained the deleted scenes they'd often be very poor.

Huh? This is common practise and in some ways professional as it will sell more copies.

Yes but it just seems naff to say something like "By the way, a super US remake is coming out!!!" when they've tried to get you interested in a HK film.

DVD Times are wrong - well they are now.

I phoned Tartan and they said that they were originally going to use the Brown HK cover (as shown on DVD Times).

However the dude said that folk in the UK have no clue who the sitting characters/actors are. So they decided to make the coverart more "actiony".

I'm 100% serious, that's what the guy at Tartan said...

Hey i dont like Tartan and thats why I avoid all there dvds like the plague. The dvds I do/have owned are appuling crap in almost every way. I wish some other company would buy up the rights before these muppets.

and yes they have a massive back catalogue of titles, but so what?, most of them have been treated like shit on dvd and video in the past.

Naff it maybe but Tartan and the first and won't be the last.

I hide them. Off hand Princess Blade and erm cannot remember any more as sold most them to upgrade (which isnt a hard thing to do).

Battle Royale I own and thats the only dvd I like as its got great extras too

Tartan seem to always do that with "Asia Extreme" range at least. My Tartan IA1 and Oldboy have "Alan Mak's and Andrew Lau's...", "Chan Wook Park's....".

What's the big deal? They directed them.

For me I'm sure I'll be happy with the AV and it has more extras than the HK DVD (go figure) so at the end of the day I don't care about the cover art much. I'm just happy it's not awful like the IA2 cover art is, the original was nicer but this is acceptable.

I own the IA2 HK DVD I may have to side grade (as Grim would say) to keep it consistent).

The HK and Korean DVDs extras wise are very lame with only a 'Behind the scenes' featurette, barely any point in have 2 discs.

The extras seem to get worse as the films go along. Only IA has what I'd say are a decent selection of extras. There is a commentary for IA2 but Tartan didn't bother to include it.

p.s - It's surprising no English dub is going to be included. Both IA and IA2 Tartan have one.
