Japanese "Who Am I" question

Post by grim_tales »

There seems to be yet another release of this coming in September - cheaper than the one out at the moment.. but it only has the shorter US cut? (Or looks like it).

http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2580198

It's only 1 disc anyway, should I wait and buy this (if all I want is the long cut)?

Of the R2J Warner Jackie Chan releases, only the 2-disc "Special Editions" have both cuts.

Doesn't say anything about which cut it is so why would you assume it's the American cut?

If you look at the Warner Japan site it lists the running time as 120 mins.

I dunno bout "Who Am I", but for the other R2J Warner JC releases:- the 1 discers have the international cuts only, 2 discers have both cuts.

The upcoming 1-disc of MR. NICE GUY is listed at the Warner JP site as lasting 97m.

That's also an uncut run time.

I was seriously thinking about getting those two one-discers but what if they are American abridged cuts? A couple of run times on a Japanese website isn't exactly conclusive proof and these cost too much to take chances on.

I, by mistake, bought a handful of the 1-discers last time they were in print (managed to off load them though, miraculously). I can confirm that they only had the Yank cuts.

I didn't know these had been released before?

Thanks for the warning.

I thought the single discs had the Japanese cuts.

But then it was Pioneer who first released NICE GUY uncut not Warner.

The double-discs are too expensive so I guess I'll have to do without.

I bought First Strike 1 disc the time before that (I think) and it was the uncut version. They're re-releasing these every year so maybe every other year is the uncut version.

Each time they re-release it, they should include English subs FFS!!

Damn legal restraints could be the problem.

How does the Warner transfer compare to the OOP Pioneer transfer? I'm guessing it's the same.

That was available with DTS or DD5.1, or just DD5.1.
