Is the Mandarin mono alright? The Cantonese mono on IVL/FS sounds awful.

The Mandarin Mono is good. Sounds like it's taken from vinyl - crackles and pops - but is clear. It's a treat to hear the original audio for the first time. You can even hear where some of the cuts were made. This is no downmix. My only gripe is that like most Fortune Star titles the sync slips now and then. Regardless, it's easily better quality than the tinny and muffled English 5.1 (which butchers the music score) and sub-par Cantonese 2.0 tracks.

I'd love to see TBB in Mandarin. All the added cat-cries are quite annoying in the Cantonese dub, practically every movement Lee makes during the fights has a cat cry.

And HKL's Platinums are inferior, so...........

The HKL's colour correction is horrible unfortunately. The Fox one is easily the superior but one possible advantage HKL has is the lack of DVNR.

Seeing it doesn't have Mandarin mono or guaranteed non-tampered image, it won't. The only advantage will be progressive flagging.

I think the Fox is interlaced and because of that there's some mild ghosting.

Interlaced vs. not having Mandarin mono = Fox wins and HKL PE loses. The HKL PE extras sound shit as well. The PE commentary is reportedly very dry and boring.

How can anyone pass judgement on a DVD that isn't even out yet is beyond me. The Fox TBB is only part of a box set which for me anyway means it loses oodles of points.

Clearly the FS Remaster is much, much better. I'll pick up the HKL PE at some point. I'm not paying full price on this one.

Any chance of a FOF comparison? I can include the HKL PE. I'd love to see a WOTD comparison more but Grim can't do captures. Does anyone else have the Fortune Star WOTD?

The sample of the new Big Boss commentary shown on the trailer is not promising. And failing to include the original language/score is ridiculous

No offense, but it's pretty obvious why we've downgraded it (the press release and the review from David R Gees).

No Mandarin.
No Bey Commentary.
Likely unrestored beginnings (Media Asia chopped them off for the sake of their precious introduction).
No full 5.1 remix (only likely downgraded from 5.1 to stereo) - not that I'm too bothered about it.
English soundtrack was probably not fixed up for the riverscene or sourced from the fully restored FS presentation (current DVD has damage).
Possible pinkification.

I can guarantee you there are pinkifications in FOF, it isn't just Mark 8) .

* Is there a 5.1 remix on the Fox? In Mandarin of course. The Fox doesn't have any commentary. So it's not a fair comparison if you include those.
* I presume you mean the title screen when you say no unrestored beginning? If so I couldn't give a fuck. It's a title screen!
* Possible pinkification - Just because of FOF does it doesn't mean TBB will.

Agreed the commentary is a concern but overall I'd say the PE is looking much better. Personally I'd prefer Mandarin but can live with Cantonese. The Fox looks like a cheap knock off and like I said crucially you have to get an entire box set to get it.

I'm already more than happy with HKL's FOF and GOD thanks. Their WOTD really needs fixing but I'm not getting a box set just for that one. The HKL PE of FOF is excellent, so what if it's a little pink (the excellent transfer otherwise, audio selection and extras more than make up for it). Mark is all wrong

Besides like I said a lot of this is being based on speculation than fact. I stand by passing judgement on what you "think" it will be like is stupid.

p.s - From what I can see of the spec. there is Cantonese soundtracks only.
