The good e-tailors thread

Post by Mordib »

as I started looking around for a good place to buy Devilman I realised ive got pretty out of touch with what dvd etailers there are out there for each region and more importantly the ones people actually use.

so could you all please add to the list as you see fit. Please include the url to their site if you are the first person to mention them. Also if you could say if you have actually used them and how their service was FOR YOU. if you want to dis a company then fine but please provide reasons beyond 'a mate of a mate' type rumours....

ok i'll start with the most obvious ones

R1
cd-wow (http://www.cdwow.com) - i use them a lot, the most i guess, always quick and reliable and pretty cheap.

R2
play (http://www.play.com) - getting more and more expensive. sales are good though.

R3
DDDhouse (http://www.dddhouse.com) - i have lot one large order from these guys, but still trust them. thei wekly sale is a great way to get cheap (and really crap) movies...

Ice Angel created one a while back, which was really good and he then went and wiped the bloody thing:

p.s - Dissing e-tailors would be better suited to the thread dedicated to it (Mordib I hope you don't mind):

negative experience - not recommended

I had lots of problems with Movietyme and they constantly kept ignoring my e-mails, delaying in giving me a credit to order something else and generally giving me an unpleasant experience.

Positive experience - recommended retailers.

Region 1, 2 , 3 and 4

CD wow - obviously excellent in all areas. Couldn't recommend them enough.

http://www.Axelmusic.com - located in Europe (Denmark I think) so there are no customs worries. I've been using them since the summer and have picked up quite a few bargains. I haven't had any problems with them so far (and touch wood I won't) so I can't comment on their customer service. Delivery usually takes five - seven days. Some items are not to competitive but they usually have a good selection of bargains. In my opinion they are very similar to CD wow. Good variety of stocks including limited editions from all over the world including Korea, Japan, US and Europe.

Region 3

http://www.KoreanDVDs.com - I usually source my Korean DVDs from here and can be very good but you have to act quickly as some stock goes very fast. I suppose their main problem in is you're not actually guaranteed to receive all/part of your order until it's been dispatched. So you may make a pre-order but won't know if you're getting it until the shipping date. Serious bargains can be had. Delivery can take up to two weeks.

DDD house.com - only used once but was a good experience.

Region 2

As mentioned play.com are very good ...

http://www.sendit.com - formerly known as Black Star, have fantastic bargains from time to time and sometimes take a long while to deliver.

http://www.choicesdirect.co.uk - very reliable, often good bargains for DVD box sets

http://www.DVD.co.uk - super quick delivery (usually), very reliable, great prices, highly recommended , I think they also sell some region 1 DVDs.

Amazon.co.uk - some good bargains to be had but why the hell they haven't got free postage like the competition is beyond me. :?

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp - Japanese retailer, obviously fairly expensive but good experience , website layout is not very good and hard to find specific items.

Yes Asia - good for buying Japanese DVDs, and they pay VAT so there's no customs worries. They also stock region 3.

Region 4

http://www.devotedDVD.com.au - have only pre-ordered a couple of box sets from them and they arrived over a week early. Their customer service responded quickly and helpfully to my e-mails.

http://www.DVDcrave.com.au - only used once, had no problems, helpful customer service.

dvdfromkorea.com is imho the best site for korean dvd's right now, and their service is great.
