New Phantom Menace, CGI Yoda vs Puppet Yoda

Post by BiscLimpkit »

I'm not sure if this is fake or what, as I don't really follow the latest Star Wars news. I noticed that http://www.zonadvd.com have a video of a CGI Yoda from the Phantom Menace. I heard rumours that Episode I is no longer available as Lucas is giving it the SE treatment (as per the 1997/2004 Special Editions)?

This is the first time I've seen anything like this. So I'm sorry if it's a farce.

Was it a puppet in The Phantom Menace? I can't remember, but I thought they used CGI for Yoda in all of the scenes in the new trilogy?

Yeah it was definitely a puppet in the Phantom Menace, but CGI in Episodes 2 and 3.

That just shows that this kind of alteration isn't actually needed - I didn't even notice that it was a puppet! I mean, the difference is apparent when you look at the two screenshots side by side, but is it really necessary?

I don't think so!

The puppet will always look better then crappy CGI.
(not that it even matters for this film, though  )

I like the puppet also better, in those screenshots... it's like they gave Yoda a botox or something for the cgi version...
Havent seen any of the new starwars movies though, so can't go indepth with my criticism ;)

Personally I prefer the Frank Oz glove-puppet.

But who really cares? TPM is poorly-written and is boring as fuck.

as far as far as I know you can still purchase the Phantom menace, maybe they are planning to withdraw it six months down the line or something?

ROTS is very good, AOTC is good fun but TPM as Eva says is an utterly boring mess.

It's odd considering the rest of TPM is chocker with CGI.

It's real.

One of the extras on the ROTS DVD has footage of CGI Yoda possibly for a re-release of TPM and more tinkering.

It's mentioned in the DVD Answers review.

But for all of the Phantom menace's flaws it does have the best light sabre battles of any Star Wars film and the excellent "Duel of the fates" musical score! :D

True but that lasts for about 20 minute of a 140 minute film, or something like that.

I wouldn't say it's the best light sabre battle. The one in TESB is far darker and better too.

A few good slices still can't save an apple that's rotten to the core though.
