From latest newletter:-
HKL wrote:Sammo Hung: Actor, director and restaurateur…
Hong Kong martial arts movie legend Sammo Hung shows no signs of slowing down. He recently starred in Daniel Lee’s ‘Dragon Squad’ and in a Taiwanese TV drama and is planning a return to directing with a horror epic entitled ‘Night Train’.
Sammo and his wife Mina also run a restaurant in Las Vegas called ‘Shanghai Noon’. Mina Hung is better known to film fans as ‘Joyce Godenzi’, star of ‘Eastern Condors’ and ‘She Shoots Straight’. Between these different ventures, Sammo has forsaken the kung fu school for the golf course.

Taken from HKL's website:
Michelle Yeoh takes flight with ‘Trainspotting’ helmer 29/07/05
Asian action queen Michelle Yeoh is set to play a female astronaut in ‘Trainspotting’ director Danny Boyle’s upcoming SF feature ‘Sunshine’. Casting is currently underway to find other Chinese performers to appear in the film. Cantopop idol Nicholas Tse, star of ‘Gen-X Cops’ and Chen Kaige’s forthcoming ‘The Promise’, was briefly in contention, but had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Yeoh will next be seen in the Hollywood-produced historical epic ‘Memoirs Of A Geisha’.
I don't get why he needs Asian actors so much (I guess we'll find out).
On the one hand I'm pleased Michelle Yeoh will be better known but it's a pity she's not making decent martial arts flicks anymore.

What do you think BBFC-wise?

Posted: 30 Jul 2005, 07:09
by grim_tales
I dont think it would be cut if it got the 18 rating.

Well, the VHS release was missing some criminal instruction (ie. the lock-picking, car jimmying), weaponry (butterfly knife) and animal cruelty (real chickens run over by vehicles!). I can't remember the violence level so not sure whether it would be a '15' or '18' today. Isn't there hard drug use in this too? The weapon cuts will be certainly waived, possibly the instruction too, but the cruelty cuts will remain as they're still illegal.

Latest HKL newsletter:-
HKL wrote:
Richard Gere signs on for Andrew Lau International Debut
Infernal Affairs and Initial D director Andrew Lau Wai-keung is set to make his American directorial debut with the US$35 million indie thriller “The Flock”.

The film is set to star Richard Gere (The Jackal, Internal Affairs) as a federal agent approaching retirement, assigned to train his young female replacement, Gere gets involved with a case involving a missing girl who may be linked to a paroled sex offender he is investigating.
Dragon Tamer
Hong Kong Legend, Donnie Yen, has just traveled to Shanghai to begin preparation on the big-screen adaptation of the popular Hong Kong TV series, Mega Dragon and Tiger. Yen will act as both director and action-director, and the film’s stars will be New Police Story’s Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue from the Media Asia smash-hit, Initial D.

Wow, that Andrew Lau English flick sounds cliched as hell. Veteran cop showing rookie cop the ropes; paroled criminal on the loose. Hopefully he delivers a great film of Infernal Affairs calibre; good filmmakers can usually tell compelling story despite cliches of their film's genre (again like IA).

Why are HKL sending out newsletters about films that have nothing to do with HKL product??? Can they spend more time getting their own shit together please?

I for one am pleased they are. I wouldn't necessarily find out otherwise.

Fantastic.

Time to get rid of the original disc then...

I'll wet my pants with laughter if it contains new foley effects

. Seriously that is good news.
Oh wait what is Grim going to have to talk about after it's release?

. Of course there is still the rest to fix.
I never thought I'd see the day HKL add Mandarin. They're really listening lately first Mono next Mandarin.
This will be pumped with soundtracks:
Mandarin (probably Mono)
Cantonese Mono (I'm betting on)
Cantonese DD5.1
English DD5.1
Commentary DD2.0

I suggest you watch the trailer again. It doesn't say Mandarin Mono at all.
There is still plenty of time for Mark to moan about remixing

(joke).

Does the original Mandarin Mono soundtrack include the Bruce Lee war cries? If not I'll stick with the Cantonese DD5.1 (or maybe Mono).

It's official finally. I'm really looking forward to it as I have never listened to the Mandarin track.

Yes it does say Mandarin Mono Brad - or at least points to it - first it says "Digitally Enhanced Mono" and then it says "Original Mandarin Soundtrack".
The FS DVD had mandarin but it wasnt the mono track remastered at all. So maybe theyve got one over them.
