I think you're spot on Mark. In both DVDs (R2/R3) I compared the beginning and CYF death scene and both seem to match the original script bang on.

Most DD and DTS tracks sound virtually identical on my amp.

Yea, I'm not good with sound.
I can barely tell the difference between 128 kbits/s MP3 and CD quality.

I'm surprised you cannot of all people, consider how good your eyes seem to be.

Well, the "accurate" subs are a translation of what was actually said as opposed to originally intended, so yeah, they are more accurate.

The theatrical subs might have been the original screenplay, but like any film they adapt and changed dialogue in the filming process. In effect the actors were speaking a new Mandarin draft under Lee's direction. The new subs are a translation of what was actually spoken (shooting script).

Plus it's HD

Not very good HD - it seems to break up into blurry frames in a few places.

I think Ivan's being very harsh on the BD release there, yes the encoding falters at times but otherwise it's a very nice transfer.

I dunno...it's the only BD I have where the encoding falters in that manner. Be interesting if Sony revisited it for 'Mastered in 4k'

Sounds like you might have a faulty disc if the encoding is faltering repeatedly? Not many grabs in the caps-a-holic comparison but there are no signs of major blocking, in fact the encode seems little better on the UK disc than the German there.

No a spectacular transfer, but a definite jump from DVD^^

No, you can see it in the transfer on youtube too. It is blink-and-you'll miss it, I admit.

Are you talking about one isolated incident where the picture breaks up or something repeatedly appearing? If it's the former give me a timecode and I'll check my disc. I reviewed the disc back when it came out and didn't notice anything major like that (I think the worst moment of noise was the scene when Zhang Ziyi dives into some water), but it wouldn't be the first time I've missed a fleeting glitch.
