Kurotogaki now offers subtitled boots of SUKEBAN 6 and 7. I bought the Toei R2 DVDs a year or so ago and am very excited to finally seem them translated. 7, in particular, I really enjoy. Hopefully they will move on to fansubbing the TERRIFYING GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL series next.

Sweet Baby Jesus! Thank you, HungFist--I mean "Nikkatsu." Is it safe to say that other online shops will offer these? Does Amazon Japan ship to the US? I will MOST CERTAINLY buy these.

I'm sure they'll be available via the usual suspects... CDJapan, Yesasia... Amazon (probably) does ship to US, but it's courier only, so shipping cost a fortune if you're outside Japan. I recommend cdjapan or yesasia.

These were just announced, so they're not necessarily listed everywhere yet.

This pretty much wraps up my Japanese exploitation want list (until I find out about more buried treasure) although I am still smarting over the cancellation of BANKAKU ROCK. Was there ever a VHS release? Surely some enterprising young go-getter would like to download this film and sell me a burnt disc. The other major title for me is COLLEGE GIRL'S SECRET: PREGNANCY AND ABORTION with Yukie Kagawa.

Seems like I heard rumors of a few rival studios' stabs at pinky violence, not unlike Toho and their Rika series. I'm sure there are a couple of stragglers out there that have not hit my radar yet.

I'm curious about these films. Also the director of this one did MINI SKIRT LYNCHERS (with Meiko Kaji,) a film I am dying to see.

Private detective infiltrates yakuza gang in Seijun Suzuki’s super-hip gangster movie. The jazz-tuned film mixes strong colors, femme fatales, sports cars and men with machine guns to a maximum pop cinema effect. Joe Shishido and the ridiculously beautiful Reiko Sasamori star. Pure coolness on film!

Had a difficult time of it, but finally found the GIRLS' JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL films and boxed set up for pre-order at Yesasia. Was wondering if anyone knew whether they would charge me immediately when I order it, or wait until it ships. The latter is industry standard, but there are a few crapweasels out there.

Edit: Rooted around and got the answer--they bill at time of shipping. Ordered.

Celebrating the release of the new documentary film Ishii Teruo: Eiga Tamashi, Cinema Vera will screen 30 of Ishii's movies June 31-September 3. The selection includes many of his early films (scifi, noir), seminal pinky violence works, and some 1990's movies.

A little bit disappointed with the selection to be honest (I was hoping for more unreleased 70's gems) but there's a lot of great stuff there. May drop by for a few days if I get a chance.

Hung Fist, did you see the Ishii doco? What did you think?

I didn't see the Ishii doc yet.

Shogun's Sadism I've seen a long time ago from the Japan Shock dvd... might revisit it on Toei dvd some day.

Bizarre Crimes of Post-War Japan is disappointing... it's much like Ishii's Love & Crime, a "true accounting" of various real life crimes but with less memorable execution, not all that much exploitation, and an irritating narration by the hysteric pop star Pinko Izumi. The most interesting part is to see Hideo Murota play the same character Ken Ogata played in Vengeance is Mine a few years later...

The other two I haven't seen, but I might rent them if I can find them... need to invest a bit more on viewing equipment first, though.
