Jurassic Park DTS
Does anyone know where I can get the R1?
I know its out of print but i was hoping i can get it somewhere.
It seems all DTS versions of this movie is so hard to find.
I'd even settle for a Bootleg im so desperate lol
Whats the DD 5.1 version like?

Extras aside by all accounts the R2J Sony Superbit is the way to go. It has a different 5.1 mix to all other versions and is said to be superior.
As I no longer really care about extras I'd probably go for that. I'm sure the Universal 5.1 mix is also good (i.e - R1 DD5.1, R1 DTS, UK R2, R4) but I hear it's not as good. The Universal DVDs do have extras though.
If you do find the R1 DTS make sure when it arrives you've got the fixed version, see notes here at the end to find out how to tell the difference:

As to where to buy the R1 DTS it looks to be OOP (the DD5.1 version isn't) so all I can suggest is eBay.com. I cannot find it anywhere either. Strangely Jurassic Park 2 DTS version isn't OOP though.
The R2J SB is on Amazon.co.jp but I'm unsure if it's in stock. It's not listed on CD Japan.
p.s - Personally I'd wait for the HD-DVD or Blu-ray now.

No worries.
Sadly I believe it is. If you want to give it a go it maybe available at Amazon Japan though.jimmyscab wrote:I thought the Japanese SB is also long OOP?
Unless you get lucky you'll probably have to. That you should be able to pick up cheap as chips.jimmyscab wrote:Or maybe pick up a DD5.1 version for cheap.

Picture quality according to DVD Beaver is a little better on the Sony transfer over Universal. I imagine that's because the Universal DVDs are now 7 years old and do have extras taking disc space up:

That said to me they all look virtually identical. I wouldn't get to hung up over the DD5.1. For starters it's the same 5.1 mix as found on the R1 DTS, it still is 5.1 and it's not as if you have any choice. It's just the 5.1 mix on the Sony R2J is more aggressive but it's a moot point when it's OOP.
Remember it's the better 5.1 mix by Sony that is important to the SB than the fact it has DTS. Granted the fact it has DTS on top is a bonus but I'd also imagine the DD5.1 on the SB is great. Yes given the choice I'd opt for the R2J but unless you find it second hand it's long gone.

Possibly if the HD Disc doesn't come from Japan BUT then again the Universal 5.1 mix is 7 years old so I'd hope they'd create a new one. I hope all the 5.1 mixes on Blu-ray and HD-DVD aren't the exact same 5.1 mixes found on the DVD version. Obviously I've no idea though, seeing as it's not out.jimmyscab wrote:But when it comes out on HD we will get the Universal mix no?
Then again there isn't obviously anything wrong with many 5.1 mixes on DVD. All 5.1 mixes should sound better on HD-DVD/BD though as the vast majority are encoded at much higher bitrates to what DVD can store.

A Superbit Bootleg would be a waste of time. The disc would be a DVD-5 so compressed from the DVD-9 original and therefore negating the point of SB. SB exists to increase the bitrate, there wouldn't be much point to then compress that SB down to a DVD-5.
I'd definitely opt for a DD5.1 version over one of those.

Yup you got that right. Many people who pay such insane prices that I know of, still do not bother with HD at all. Mmmm insane. All the cash they blow on silly DTS titles could pay for a HD player instantly if they flogged them expsnsive Japanese Superbits.bradavon wrote:People are such muppets. There's no way the Sony 5.1 mix is "that" much better than the older Universal 5.1 mix.

I liked Lost World the most. The part when they take the dinos back to San Diego and then they go on the loose is hilarious.
All three are just special effects showcases though.
The "smart raptors" thing in JP3 was really silly. By that point the series had become a parody of itself, just like the Jaws sequels.
