I'm pretty sure I read a comment from someone from South Africa who said it was very authentic.
it's not just me who thought his accent was dodgy.not that i particularly care,as the film is average and i won't be watching it again.

It sounded like a pretty spot on South African accent to me, judging from the trailer.

The 40 Year Old Virgin - 4/5
Hilarious!

Knocked Up - 4/5
Again, great stuff!

Dynamite Warrior (aka Tabunfire) - 1.5/5
Disappointed. The fights are so repetitive and boring. I expected a whole lot more considering the cover states it was "from the creators of Ong Bak and The Protector".

brooce-leroy wrote:If you are only getting a few quid for your "normal" dvds on ebay, then isn't less hassle to just sell them on the classifieds?

Normal dvds still sell at about £2-3 on the likes of dvd and avforums, so I'd thought it'd be easier and less time consuming on there.
You'd think but actually eBay is still quicker. You list the item and then leave it for 7 days (or sooner if it's BIN). With forums you have to check your listing daily or people get irate, you then have the losers who bargain forever over 50p/£1 difference. That one always annoyed me. Some people barter forever, over pennies.

You then have people who mess around saying dumbass things like postage is extra, plus you have no buy protection like eBay. You also have to deal with anal people who quibble over the slightest mark (i.e - the sort of mark only a magnifying glass could see).

I am no longer interested in trading as I buy what I want and don't want to grow my collection with titles I may buy but probably never would. You almost always end up getting titles you probably don't really want (the good but not on your To Buy list stuff) in trades. I rarely got something I really, really wanted.

I've not bothered with forums for 1-2 years now. It's way too much hassle. The few quid on eBay quickly adds up anyway, besides it's all cash in the pocket.

Personally I cannot stand keeping something I no longer want (I have a bit of a thing for clutter) and thus have to get rid of DVDs I don't want. I know Romero hangs on to titles for months/years to get a good price. Fair enough but I couldn't do that. Once I've decided I know longer want a DVD it has to go.

As long as it takes on eBay (Romero is right it does take time to create a proper listing, which I do for expensive stuff) it's still easier than messing around with Forums.

That reviewer does say his accent sounds more European though.

What on earth is a European accent?

An English accent sounds nothing like a Scottish one which sounds nothing like a French accent and that's without getting into all the Scottish, English and I'd presume French accents. For that matter what's an African accent? (as the reviewer also states).

I would hazard a guess there is easily well over 40 different European accents, probably at least 100. Is he saying DiCaprio's accent sounds like a mixture of all of them? :D

Personally I wouldn't cite that as a good example.

IMO he's a rather underrated actor. I recall being surprised by how decent his performance was in The Departed.

A Good Thief - 3/5
Entertaining and tightly-scripted Euro-caper film, with a twist at the end that left a smile on my face. Ultimately forgettable though TBH. Decent performances from Nick Nolte and the Arab(?) guy from La Haine.

Featured another non-descript and totally forgettable score from Elliot Goldenthal (just like his scores for whichever later & lesser 90's Batman & Alien sequels that he worked on).

Not a patch on the classics and gems of Neil Jordan's filmography like The Crying Game and Butcher Boy. Probably a film that he did for the paycheque.

Typical ignorant yank by the sounds of it, thinks Europe and Africa are countries probably. Idiot.

DVDTalk has some excellent reviewers but damn they don't half have some stinkers as well!

The Bourne Ultimatum - 4.5/5

Very exciting, solid thriller and a fine end to the Bourne Trilogy. The shaky cam was annoying at first but I got used to it, in fact it added to the gritty feel of the film.
Cracking stuff, really enjoyed it. Will buy DVD :)
I noticed "Jeff Imada" worked on the fights n' stunts. Did he work on Mortal Kombat or something?

Okay a slight Romero moment there :D

But look where it got me. Those were titles that didn't sell after listing them twice. Except for Transporter (which I've now sold with Transporter 2) I gave them away. I probably should've tried the second hand shop but oh well.

Me too. He looked a million times better all buff too :D , he used to look really weedy and definitely not leading man material. Now he does.
Shingster wrote:Typical ignorant yank by the sounds of it, thinks Europe and Africa are countries probably. Idiot.
That's what I was thinking. It's scary how common it is that non-European actually think Europe is one country, even if not literally but in effect. They all assume since the EU we all formed into one big happy family.

My Korean friend even said as much (and she's an intelligent person), now she's travelling around Europe she's been proven very wrong.

Of course it's worse in America where they have no real concept of a country without individual States. Oh durh Europe must be lots of States like us.

It does remind me of the Jessica Simpson sketch where she was playing a quiz with some friends and one of them asked what is the language of Africa and all of them (except one but he was too dumb to say it's a continent) said African obviously. Jessica was really sure she was right :D

Speaking of America does anyone else get a bit peeved when an American is asked where they're from and they always say the State but every other country say the country? If I said Wiltshire or Somerset no one would have a clue. Which granted most have heard of American states but certainly not all, sometimes they even say where in the State as if I'm supposed to know where that is.
Shingster wrote:DVDTalk has some excellent reviewers but damn they don't half have some stinkers as well!
IMO it's the best American DVD review site.

I've seen that before :D . How ignorant can you get? America is a fucking enormous country that stands out like a sore thumb. Of course most American never actually leave their country so why does it matter where it is?

The bit where she stumbles over South Africa and Iraq is classic, like they're just next door to each other. And to think these are the people who run and change the world, oops. I bet most Americans could find Iraq on a map either!

He he check out this follow up :D -

Well no but why should we? Why should I need to know where the American States are per say? I have heard of them though, which is more than many Americans can manage.

Children Of Men 3/5

Strange film this one. It's kind of like there was a big story here but the film only decided to show a little bit from the middle. Nothing much really happened... But some of the scenes filmed were incredible. I love long takes in films, and this film has some of the best I've ever seen, better than the opening scene from Breaking News which I also thought was great. The action scenes were incredibly done.

Borat movie 3.5

Think I'm not likely to watch this again, but I did laugh a bit. Some scenes were so funny cause they were so unbelievable!! The frat boys were absolute twats.

Jeff Imada is a long time John Carpenter contributor. He's choreographed (also he's played bit-parts and done stunts. Eg he's most of the aliens in They Live.) the action/stunts on most Carpenter films since Big Trouble in Little China.

hey,

Den Enfaldige Mördaren (The Simple-Minded Murder) 4/5

A dark, Swedish gem about the events leading up to a murder committed by repressed, village "idiot" Sven (Stellan Skarsgård). A portrayal of Evil, personified by the writer and director Hans Alfredsson who is mainly known for his clever, satire comedy. But cinematically he pulled off some rather stylish pieces, evident in this film via a variety of fantasy sequences involving angels with golden pistols (!). Skarsgård is almost unrecognizeable due to some facial make-up and a heavy accent but it's a breakthrough performance worthy of praise.

Swedish dvd features a remastered transfer, commentary by Skarsgård and English subtitles.

Atonement - 2/5

Kiera Knightly has to be the most overrated actress I've ever watched. James McAvoy was excellent but I found the film to be pretty dull overall. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be; just not my cup of tea, thats all.

No, Catwoman = Cynthia Kyle.

Billy Dee Williams signed up as Harvey Dent in hopes of playing Two Face in a later sequel (and was contracted to do so IIRC). It's a similar situation for whomever is playing Dent in The Dark Knight, I'd guess.
