How do you know the movie is 30 minutes short? any links to show this? If it wasn't his original vision why would Hegleand get involved?

Well, the director supervised this new version and even provided commentary. I think that says that he approved of this cut of the film and this DVD.

And again, you haven't seen it. ;)

Just from all the crying like a baby the director did when this happened all them years ago, it was over 2 hours long thats what I remember. Obviously thats gone out the window, as he is too busy editing out parts he didnt film I guess.

Romero is just pulling stuff out of his arse as usual. Reminds me bout his tirades bout The 13th Warrior.

Well, the story behind the production of this film is indeed very sad in my opinion. So much unused footage.

Not at all, I am saying its to late and most the footage must have been lost, destroyed or they just dont like it and dont want to use it now for some reason. The film was over 2 hours when it was suposed to be out al them years ago, beleve me or not.

You obviously havent got a clue about what your talking about then, go bulk up and then come back. As its obvious you havent got a clue about Payback or 13th Warrior's history.

I have, as I remember shit like that.

Brian approved and supervised the creation of this version of the film and even provided commentary.

Other than him personally giving you a free copy of the DVD signed and telling you that this is his version of the film, I don't think you'll ever be satisfied.

It's director approved. Whether it's the version you think should be released is irrelevant. You're not the director. Deal with it.

 As its not the directors vision it doesnt matter anyway, he went away before it was finished, so its never gonna be "his" film. No matter how much he wines about it and cuts that Other directors footage :D

Then why the hell are you complaining about it? You're actually complaining that he's not including footage that was never shot.

What. The. Fuck.

And romero, don't comment until you've seen the film. Isn't that what you always tell everyone else? ;)

Yup you got that right :D Only when its cheap mind you. I still havent watchted the old dvd yet mind you, only seen it in the cinema all them years ago.

Its the commentary I want to hear more than anything else, want to see what the director says about them troubled time, if he speaks about it much as ussually they keep quiet about the juicy stuff you really want to hear.

I actually read the opposite in that it was closer to the 90-100 min range... then again, you can never tell what's real and what isn't anymore.

You know it ;)

Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
Champ Kind: It jumped up a notch.
Ron Burgundy: It did, didn't it?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
Ron Burgundy: I saw that! Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Ron Burgundy: Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

But anyways, we all were bitching about some random Payback-related crap?

I must admit the old days (before the net took over) seemed more reliable, I used to read every magazine going and rumors didnt seem as bad esspecially when they used to interview the director and stars, now the net seems to jump on the bandwagon of any rumor and make it fact after a few hours.

I wouldnt know where to start looking for the info I read anything about Payback :) but I would guess it was in a film magazine, sadly I only now own Empire and Total film (every issue of both) as the rest took up too much room and were dumped as they weighed a tonne (litterally). :D

Save the Planet indeed.

I think it was from the workprint which started to wander around the 'net in 2000 that the rumors started. I remember them saying it was indeed shorter than the theatrical cut, so that's a start. But I'm sure the "official" release of this cut will be tweaked a bit more. Either way, after hearing about this cut for 7 years (the second longest wait on my "list" since the uncut Big Boss!), I'm looking forward to it in a couple of weeks!

I do remember lots of violent bits mentioned years ago far more than were in the film released in cinemas and they made me think my god! thats sick (which is a good thing, as gibsons never done a full on sicko film) wonder if its all been put back in, people are saying yes its more gritty and violent, but is it all back in as surley someone knows these things in detail (like the director will know). It seems Gibson just hated the idea of a film so violent and wanted it cut out, as he was on a roll after Braveheart still, he got his way and cut the film his way it seems.

Fingers crossed The real director puts his thoughts forward on this subject, does he hate Gibson for talking over in such a way? did he like the film at all in the end? will he ever work with them again? :D

Well, it sounds like they got new interviews with Gibson, so I guess we'll see his reaction to the whole "recut" thing.

The problem with the new interviews is Gibsons went a bit strange since 1999  the religious aspects of his life have took over and he now acts a little odd in public, maybe Payback was the film that threw im over the edge :D
