Very interested to see this.
I liked the theatrical version (which was hardly soft) and would hope to see both incarnations in a 2-disc set.
I don't have a problem with Gibson slapping Unger about as she deserves it (and more), but I think if you make Gibson too ruthless throughout, you're left with no one to root for. That may have been fashionable in the 70's but it doesn't wash nowadays.

Some people shouldnt be allowed to have an opinion...bradavon wrote:When is it out?
Payback: The Theatrical Cut is a gratitous, vapped, waste of space tv movie. Trash in other words. I remember Lucy Lui being good though.
Was there any need to smash Gibson's feet?
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Fuck HD, what about DVD for the rest of us plebs??
I hope they don't make the mistake of excluding the theatrical version - if only for comparison's sake. It's required for any definitive release - and some people may actually prefer it. After all very few have actually seen the Dir's Cut. It could be a bunch of arse?

From the sound of the new cut anyway its NOT the old cut we were expecting, they must have burned all that footage. Its nowhere near enuff footage to make the film its origanal state. Basically this re-release isounds pants and its not the origanal cut at all, its something new and sounds poo compared to what the origanal film was.
I remember all the stuff that was cut, they went ionto a lot of detail around the time the film was hacked to death, and really I cannot see much of that stuff coming back at all, the whole film would have to be rediscovered as it was a totally different film from begining to end.

How's that?romerojpg wrote:Sounds a load of bollocks sadly, far from the origanl cut I expected, its a hack version from the sound of it.
Everything I've read about this version says its the original cut the way it was originally conceived and written.
Here's another review too:

I believe Brian was fired without having completed his version of the film, therefore it would be pretty impossible for him to have a completed film. Similiar to Donner's Superman II. Or they were shot and maybe Brian just decided to excise those seasons for various pacing reasons.romerojpg wrote:From what I read the origanal cut was well over 2 hours long, this new one isnt. That says it all, lots of the film is still missing or gone forever. This new cut is a hybrid of stuff they found and played with, not the origanal cut at all. So its bollocks
And the reviews have been very positive. I don't get the hostility. Until you see the film, you can't give an opinion.
