The R3 is so cheap and unless your machine is region locked I see no reason to get the R1 over the cheaper R3.

My player is R1 only and I like going to the store and picking it up on release day. Call me old fashioned.

Fair enough, what I am I saying look what I posted above the R3 is also R1 so will play just fine in your R1 only player. R3 DVDs are also NTSC encoded so no worries there either.

It's a no brainer IMO. You'd lose out on DTS just so you can get it (a month late) in store?

p.s - Why get the "official R1" when the R3 is also R1. The R1 DVD will be the R3 DVD, just with DTS lopped off. Why? I've no idea.

Thanks for the info, but I'm going to stick with the R1. DTS is nice, but it's not a big deal for me really. And it'll be $13-$14 on release day here in the US anyway.

Thanks though, your proposal certainly is tempting, but all of my DVD's are R1 and I'd like to keep it that way.

I'd say that R3's are possibly lower quality than R1's.

It might seem silly, but other region DVD's just feel...cheaper and not quite as official to me as a good ol' R1.

Same here, although R2 UK's are fine (apart from the PAL picture in my opinion).

Well you say yourself you've only ever bought R1

. Seiously I see your point as some R3 DVDs definitely have a cheaper feel but that doesn't apply to R2 or R4 DVDs.

That's a massive generalisation. Just like R1 it depends on the studio. Lionsgate aren't exactly known for their quality.

In the case of Casino Royale it's a Sony R3 so will be identical.

Yeah, Wally World will probably have it for $13 and change.

And I've seen some other region discs and they just seem slightly cheaper. I dunno. Even a couple of Canadian discs I've viewed seemed cheaper, from the package to the menus and FBI screens before the movie...just...not the same.

The R1's I have dont feel better then my R2's Usually the R1 artwork is crap, and apart from that it just isnt better or worse then other regions, depending on the individual release ofcourse.

The extras better be good enough for me to down-grade to SD. Hopefully they'll bring out the UE on Blu-ray too.

Cool. Romero there are no release dates in that link so hardly soon.

It would be crazy to only release a DVD. I'm sure a BD will come too. I'll upgrade, even though I already own the SD R3 DVD and UK BD
