Well, I went and got the R2J mainly because it was one of the first out and it came in as swish box as Twilight Samurai. Not much good to you I know, but the picture doesn't look too bad to me but then I probably don't have as fancy schmancy set up as you! :D

Hey from the look of whats out there the Japanese version may well still be the best for picture and soujnd, other versions seem to have little probs. But hell may be best to wait even longer and see what happenes elsewhere. Still the Japanese dvd is great.

Tartan don't do "NTSC to PAL to NTSC" do they? I think their R1 Oldboy is something like PAL to NTSC.

All the R1 reviews I've read from the likes of DVD Talk and DVD Active, both seem to know there stuff give Tartan R1 discs decent reviews.

I hadn't heard Oldboy was PAL to NTSC, even the Tin version?

Simple rule with tartan, if their r2 release is true pal, the r1 is PAL>NTSC. If their r2 release is NTSC>PAL, their r1 is NTSC.

Not necessarily. Their R1 of Tsukamoto's Vital was film-NTSC and their R2UK was film-PAL.

Panorama suck, all their releases are interlaced.

Nice to see exceptions, make it a general rule then. :D

Cheers. I didn't realise that was usually the case.

I do wonder where they sourced the Native-PAL master from, as all these films are NTSC at source (as in county).

It's funny therefore no American review I've read has mentioned PAL-NTSC. Are you sure? It wouldn't be logical from a business sense to release PAL-NTSC.
