It is definitely one hell of an awesome fight. Especially, since it is comprehensible why the guy is fighting. And when he fights, he fights in a way that suits the character and his reasons. He is a Bruce Lee-fanboy who does exactly what his idol did in "Fist of Fury" (what we see in the beginning of the film when he is at the theatre watching the film). So what does he do? He tries to immitate Bruce Lee, which of course fails and a realistic movie fight (I like to call it that way), developes.BaronKermit wrote:...and i wouldnt call the final fight scene "a cool showdown".........I'd call it one of the best fight scenes ever put on film!
Holy Sh*t Play have killed off HKL's website! ;-)

Magnificent Warriors - rather lightweight but good fun, with excellent stuntwork, appealing characters and restrained - relativly! - comedy. Hwang Jang-lee is criminally underused thoughbradavon wrote:Are Magnificent Warriors, Tai Chi Boxer & Eastern Condors any good?. Eastern Condors looks particulary good.
I've been reading reviews to get an idea but want to ask you guys too. Eastern Condors and Magnificent Warriors I'd get the R1 Fox though.
Phew last message via my mobile
Tai Chi Boxer - nothing special, but kinda sweet. For a low price, worth a look
Eastern Condors - I've only seen this once so I don't remember much but it's got some great fights

Brad, don't get the R1 Eastern Condors. Naturally no mono, but we've got bigger problems here. The 5.1 track is notably out of sync. I owned that disc long before I knew anything about FS or even the meaning of mono. I thought I got a faulty copy or something. A dvd with out of sync audio... That was something totally new to me back then

I have the R3 Korean from Spectrum. In sync audio, a Sammo Hung interview (taken from the HKL disc) but no mono and features same dubtitles carried over from the Fox version.bradavon wrote:Are Magnificent Warriors, Tai Chi Boxer & Eastern Condors any good?. Eastern Condors looks particulary good.

How is Miss Yeoh? My biggest draw to this title, action packed or a bit of fluff?Ivan Drago wrote:Magnificent Warriors - rather lightweight but good fun, with excellent stuntwork, appealing characters and restrained - relativly! - comedy. Hwang Jang-lee is criminally underused though
The HKL trailer makes it look like a fight fest OUATIC clone, I take it it's nothing like this at all?Ivan Drago wrote:Tai Chi Boxer - nothing special, but kinda sweet. For a low price, worth a look
I reckon I'll pick this one up for sure.Ivan Drago wrote:Eastern Condors - I've only seen this once so I don't remember much but it's got some great fights
Thanks btw.

Thanks Hung. How out of sync is it? Are we talking a split-second, seconds or minutes? I ask as I've yet to notice any out-of-sync issues on all the HK DVDs you guys say are out of sync.HungFist wrote:Brad, don't get the R1 Eastern Condors. I just don't seem to notice Sync issues unless it's extreme. For example:
* DangerousLee - Can't spot any Sync issues and it's likely the Spectrum is a Fox port.
* These reviews mention Sync issues:
http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/E-H/e ... ndors.html
http://filmfreakcentral.net/dvdreviews/ ... ondors.htm (although it's vague what "aural isolation" is supposed to mean)
But these mention no issues at all:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=9068 (these guys usually know what they're talking about, not that I'm saying you guys don't)
http://www.upcomingdiscs.com/dvd_review ... erncondors
http://www.dighkmovies.com/v3/194/194.html
This one even says the Audio is in Sync (not that I rate Love and Bullets reviews period):
http://www.loveandbullets.com/foxeasterncondors.htm
So really how bad is it?
Oh and has anyone managed to track down a capture comparison? Fortune Star transfers can be miles better than HKL ones but then they can also be worse.
If it's miles better like say their ITLOD4 DVD I may still get it, based on what you say above.

Actually... the out-of-sync track on EC is one of the main reasons why I went back to the HKL.
I can forgive minor sync problems (50-100ms delay is OK), but when the sound is late or early by more than a tenth of a second, it just drives me nuts.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

God help us, he's speaking french.
Hey, seriously, the 5.1 track on the Fox is a joke.
At some points the sound is about half a second off.

LOL Merci is like Ciao, everyone speaks it
Shit the HKL looks a mess in comparison. I wonder why those reviewers above didn't notice it. Is it out of sync right through or just for a patch?
Question: Are any of the other Fox FS DVDs out of sync? HK 1941, Royal Warriors and ITLOD4 sounded fine to me (for example).

Tai-Chi Boxer is a nice little comedy with an amazing action climax.
The interaction between Wu Jing and Christy Chung is what makes it work.
I'd say it's on par with Once Upon A Time in China 4 (in terms of comedy and pacing).
It's NOT a kung-fu fight fest. Not by a long shot.

Sadly I've only seen OUATIC1-3 as no fucking 4 & 5 STILL exist (sans that bootleg Part 4 DVD, oh and the French DVDs). I don't reckon these 2 will ever get released, it's all very strange.
Thanks btw. I don't think it's my cup of tea. Action climaxes still mean like Yes Madam (I presume) you need to endure the rest of the film.

Like you, I've never seen OUTIC 4 or 5 but I heard they were pretty good. Also, a friend told me that Warner Bros. claimed ownership of these two titles. Any truth to this? If so, they should at least put them out on DVD or something.bradavon wrote:Sadly I've only seen OUATIC1-3 as no fucking 4 & 5 STILL exist (sans that bootleg Part 4 DVD, oh and the French DVDs).
