I think HKL's PE of Way was very limited to begin with. Be nice if they reissued it with the FS master

The R4 PE is still in print (and was never limited to begin with).

I'd take Engrish by a third rate English speaker on an English film over a dub any day. It's the proper language for the film, simple. To dub a film into completely the wrong language is way worse to me than a badly spoken correct language.
To be fair, you watch 1.33:1 OAR films in 16:9 zoom mode, which is just as sacreligious as dubbing. Pot calling the kettle black.

There are people out there who like it. Fearless Hyena can compete with Jackie's Seasonal films in my eyes and is better than Young Master and Dragon Lord if you ask me.

What I want to say is that I don't think it can be compared to Fantasy Mission Force.
It has got really great fights, the usual training scenes and as most kung-fu movies a plot dealing with revenge, but trying to be a little more dramatic than others. That is something I like.
The wacky comedy at some stages might be out of place - but Young Master or Dragon Lord don't have less of it.
I somehow have got a special relationship to "Fearless Hyena" as it was the first movie I had on DVD.

I agree that there are many better kung fu flicks out there, but certainly there are also many that are worse (almost all of Jackie's other Lo Wei films for example)...

Actually I prefer the majority of the JC/Lo Wei films to FH but I think that's got a lot to do with the way they are bashed so much they lead to low expectations

Interesting thanks. It's an HKL port right? I hope HKL re-release it. It's pretty old now anyway and wouldn't make sense to not have a WOTD: PE.

Of course it is. The only differences between the R4 and R2 HKLs are entirely trivial - a different selection of HKL trailers and coverart.

Can I ask exactly why there is a big fuss over the potential inclusion of the original English dub?

Is it just for nostalgia's sake? Why you'd want to be reminded of the past era of cheesy dubbing, and crap pan&scan VHS transfers of dirty and disgusting prints I don't know.

why shouldn't the option be there for people that want it? isn't that the whole point of dvds, providing choice etc. it's original language for me but i have a ton of dubbed kung fu movies unavailable in their original language 8)

If it takes up bugger all room the the dvd (which most tracks do) then include it, iot takes them no time to add such a track and it wont exactly cost them loads. And its good for all them people who dont watch subbed films, which I can still understand as I do listen to dubs on Anima as its not as if their mouths move to the talking anyway, films are a bit different mind you.

Eva was asking why people would want it as opposed to whether they should get it.

thelostdragon wrote:I rather have well spoken and dubbed German, than badly pronounced Mandarin. I can't imagine how bad it must sound to native Chinese people if even I notice the fact that the two actors' Mandarin is not their native language.

With all due respect to Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh (Yun-fat belongs to the list of my favourite actors, mind you), but they were clearly the wrong actors for their role in CTHD and it seems they were chosen in order to enhance the star factor of the film. It would have been much wiser to have cast a Mainlander with martial arts skills. And don't tell me there isn't an actor who fits the role of Chow Yun-fat in all of China.
The only thing criminal about CYF and MY's performances in CTHD was that in a year where Russell Crowe wins an Oscar for Best Actor for Gladiator they didn't even manage a nomination between them!!! They were both brilliant in the film, and obviously the director, a native Mandarin speaker, felt confident enough in their performances to cast them and not feel the need to dub them out in post production!!

The old school dubs appeal to me nostalgically if nothing else, especially in the case of Hand Of Death. It's not the end of the world for me if it's not there but there are a lot of fans who only want the old English dubs

Chen Dao Ming (Emperor in Hero) could have played Li Miu Bai.

Yeah. Chow Yun-Fat doesn't look like a master swordsman to me TBH.

Is "Once Upon Time in a High School" any good? The HKL trailer makes it look good for what's worth.

It makes it look like an action film which it is not. It is a nice drama, with nice training sequences in-between and a cool showdown. But it really is a drama.

It's a highly enjoyable drama.... http://www.dragonsdenuk.com/reviews/onc ... school.htm

...and i wouldnt call the final fight scene "a cool showdown".........I'd call it one of the best fight scenes ever put on film!
