I would hardly call Tube a great film, it's not even a good one.

I should watch the trailer, as right now it looks pretty average. Some Korean films are outstanding but many are overrated.

Ohh where's your handbag?
BiscLimpkit wrote:"The Host is a family based melodrama."
Is that on the front page? I saw the poster and thought it looked dull, silly of me probably but still dull.
brooce-leroy wrote:How did brad get the impression that it looks like a Ringu movie?
Why are you typing in the third person. The poster makes it look like one.
thelostdragon wrote:Am I being ignored ot what? It is supposed to be 20% comedic.
Comedy? It's getting duller by the minute. I can count on one hand the number of actually funny Asian films.

And now Universal bought the remake rights. What a surprise...

Like you always do that  . I'm not going to pay Korean DVD prices on a dull looking film.

I've just watched the trailer and it looks better than expected but still only fairly good. Although it looks like he's mixing genres which could be fun.

Why? Bong's previous film "Memories of Murder" is a serial killer thriller and it had comedic elements in it. In fact, many films that aren't pure comedies feature comedic moments.

You either have a heart made of stone or you have not watched many Asian films after all.

Brad, LD didn't say it was all comedic, just that it had comedic moments.

I barley say a word about most films before see them , only the odd comment on the trailers, posters etc and casting, you on the other hand read a thousand detailed reviews and end up knowing how the film ends :D I read it all after I see a film.

I was avoiding everything to do with the Host, only saw a few posters and a ruff description and that was it, until the UK press ruined it!

Radio Scotland covered this movie in their "Radio Cafe at the Movies" programme. There was an interesting interview with director Joon-ho Bong, but the interviewer kept putting words in the director's mouth and took advantage of the director's broken English.

Then they got some moron at the Daily Mail (or Daily Mirror) to review this. He totally didn't understand the concept of this movie and gave it a mediocre rating. He was expecting it to be a full on monster/gore-fest but completely missed the melodrama side of things, not to mention the subtle political messages.

Then some guy named Mark Camode (sp?) came along - not sure who he is but at least he had sense. He was there to talk about Stephen Spielberg but immediately praised the Host, saying that it was a great film. The Radio Scotland wifey was like "uhh yeah whatever, we're here to talk about Spielberg now."

This is the interesting thing about The Host. Most people love it because of the drama side, however that's the exact area that left me a bit cold. Sure the drama side is one of the things what makes it original, but it didn't work as well as it should've. There was a lot of attempt on characterization, but it never got me genuinely interested.

But that's just my opinion. Besides, The Host was one of those 26 movies I saw within a 8 day period, so maybe my concentration wasn't at it's best. I'll give this film another change to truly impress me some day. After all, this is the most awaited, talked about and acclaimed asian film of the year.

It is?

How come this thread was only started on the 31st of October then?

I never said he did???
thelostdragon wrote:Why? Bong's previous film "Memories of Murder" is a serial killer thriller and it had comedic elements in it. In fact, many films that aren't pure comedies feature comedic moments.
Exactly, point proven. The comedy in that (otherwise very powerful film) killed it.
You either have a heart made of stone or you have not watched many Asian films after all.
I have a heart of stone or haven't seen many Asian films just because I don't funny most of the comedy ones funny? What? That doesn't even make sense.
romerojpg wrote:I barley say a word about most films before see them , only the odd comment on the trailers, posters etc and casting
Which is exactly what I'm doing here. I'm basing my opinion on the poster and trailer, you read my comments right?

The film looks dull, simple IMO.
romerojpg wrote:you on the other hand read a thousand detailed reviews and end up knowing how the film ends :D
If I read a thousand reviews I'd have no time to go to work or do anything else.

Which is EXACTLY what I've done, but I guess it's okay if you do it?

You've never heard of Mark Kermode? He's only one of the biggest and loved film critics in the country.
romerojpg wrote:Mark Kmode, as he is full of Steaming Shit and bile
If you bothered to listen to him instead of dissing someone you don't ever listen to you'd learn he's actually very intelligent and articulate.

It's just the sort of film he'd love. Mark is into his horror, which I understand part of the Host is.

Jeez, Brad! Stop feeling so offended about everything. You must be looking for trouble lately.
I have a heart of stone or haven't seen many Asian films just because I don't funny most of the comedy ones funny?
No, but because you said that there are only five funny Asian films maximum.

I should've added "I've seen".

Probably because no one bothered to start a thread (here) for such a famous film. There's been 35 articles at twitch over the last 18 months, 17 threads at kfccinema (they don't have moderators :D ), and hugely positive reviews everywhere. As far as I know, I was the first person in the world who didn't consider it a masterpiece

But you seem to be dismissing the Host because of the comedy in it Brad, which according to LD makes up only a small part of the film. Even Seven Samurai has comedic, wild elements (Mifune's character). Does he kill the film? No. If anything he puts in one of the best performances.

I'm dismissing it because it looks dull, which others (Romero especially) do on a regular basis. It's not the first time the majority gets annoyed when someone goes against the status quo (Drunken Master 2 anyway?).

Most seem to think Memories of Murder is some masterpiece I think the out of place comedy killed it.

Whatever, how you can remotely know is beyond me. You're mistaken btw.

So I take it wou were watching him when he was presenting film shows like Moviedrome and on the local radio. As you are not local, I doubt that.
