First review. Unfortunately it doesn't go into much detail about the picture and audio. In their gallery they've got captures of the remastered widescreen matted transfer.

Mmm interesting, I have the old Rhino version as well as the 13 disk set from China which includes this movie (Yes it an official boxset ), but may want to get this release for the extras, but in 2 minds now, especially from what you have written Ivan, have they cocked this up?
Well the widescreen version seems fine from all accounts. It's meant to be matted and remember how bad the Metrodome release was. What I want to know is the sound and whether it's the genuine original

Update: The comparison on the review posted above zooms in for some reason on the Sony release. This review - http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?p=879217 - initially said the image on the fullscreen was cropped but has rectified the review since. Weird.

Here is a better review on DVD Talk
It includes comparison pics between Rhino, Metrodrome and Sony, yes Sony easily looks the best, and even has a comparison with the Full screen and widescreen version. It is open matte like the old disk, so def going to get this release
Time to resurrect this old thread - DVDActive have got a comparision with the UK special edition and the Sony Special Edition, it looks like UK is the way to go, looking at the comparision, although it is interlaced
I'm gonna be doing a comparison review for DVDtimes, which will hopefully be done around Monday/Tuesday ish, maybe sooner depending on when it arrives.

Any chance you could give us a sample , When your review is up, let us know please
Working my way through it tonight and I have to say I'm a bit baffled by DVDActive's comments that the Metrodome transfer is Interlaced Film-PAL. For a start the film rubs 81m 21s long which is 4% faster than the Sony and Film runtime of approximately 84m 43s. Also, I can't find any interlaced fields in any of the scenes i've gone through frame-by-frame.
What I think might have confused them is that there seems to be some sort of motion-blur/frame overlay glitch going on in some scenes where the foreground animation runs independatly to the background. It's not something you'd ever pick up on in normal playback though (well, not quite).
As an aside, the 4:3 transfer in this set is shocking. Really, really bad. I can only guess that it's the old Metrodome transfer, which looks like VHS. Still, I guess most people will buy it for the widescreen version.
I believe the Sony 4:3 is remastered, so it may be the Sony version is the winner for that.
Yeah they've really only included the open-matte version as an "extra" really, it's not been remastered and even if it were it still wouldn't be the definitive version fans are after, because it's the UK home video edit.
My review will be comparing the widescreen versions of the UE and Sony, then the open matte versions of the UE, Sony, and the old Transformers: Reconstructed release.
