Article on Wikipedia on noise reduction. Noise reduction = BAD.HungFist wrote:Brad is getting everyone wrong...
What's DVNR?
(I bet I'd be happier not knowing...)
EDIT: digital video noise reduction?
how exactly does that work?
There ya go! Although it'd be better if there were some visual comparisons demonstrating it...
And the Joy Sales kicks the HKL's ass in terms of film quality. Retains the blue tint, keeps the grain (film has grain which retains the finer details) and is highly detailed.
I'm back AGAIN.
Film grain is a good thing dammit! Say NO to DNR/EE!

Pooters removing grain. But you usually end up losing detail/natural film grain in the process. The most imfamous example is the R1/4 Citizen Kane restoration by Lowry Digital. The DVNR ended up erasing rain in at least one scene AFAIK.HungFist wrote: EDIT: digital video noise reduction?

Sometimes missing details aren't the only problem, but everything is smudged and leaves a trail after everything moves!
Note that you have to watch the moving video to be able to tell as it's impossible to tell from images only.
Take a look at 'Wheels on Meals' FS, 'Logan's War' MIA and 'Anne of Green Gables' (VHS anyway)!
Fortune Star tend to apply DVNR to deleted footage which is really annoying!
