Big (Tom Hanks) - R2 France

Post by grim_tales »

Is the French R2 uncut?

According to Rewind/DVD Compare the French and German R2's are uncut and anamorphic, so they are a better bet than the R1 which is uncut but non-anamorphic :?

I don't particularly like hearing children swear.

It's kinda sad they had to put a 'fuck' into an otherwise family film.

The BBFC cut it for a 'PG' but I believe it's still in the US version (despite it also being rated 'PG').

I wasn't saying I did but I'd still like to see the film uncut.
I was surprised when I heard about the cut footage too - I thought that was the whole point of PG-13? :?

PG-13 is a US not UK rating.

Yeah I know but the uncut version is still rated US PG, when the CUT version is UK PG.

Big - 1988

PG-13 was introduced in 1985 I think

You can't compare them like for like.

You said you were surprised but BIG in the States isn't cut anyway.

I'm not sure what the first film to get a PG-13 was, but the last one to escape it was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It was this movie (and Gremlins) that caused the introduction. Parents were complaining about the horror and violence in PG movies. At one stage the MPAA gave Temple of Doom an 'R' until Spielberg begged for mercy - as he did with Poltergeist and Jaws.

I've seen countless movies given a PG-13 for a single use of strong language so why Big escaped is a mystery to me? But then maybe 1988 was a slack year for the MPAA as they also let slip Spaceballs and Beetlejuice. Both PG, both one use of 'fuck'.

And Bettlejuice is a 15 over here (!)
Another silly rating is T3's 12A/12, despite about 4 uses of "fuck".

I always loved the scene where Tom Hanks pwns the middle-aged square toy exec who wants to sell Transformers that turn into buildings.

Is the German version uncut? I can't believe it contains the F Word if it has a certificate of "6 and Upwards" (!)

Nope, but I do have some info:

-100 minutes.
-Anamorphic.
-2.0 English, French, Italian soundtracks.
-English, French, Italian, Dutch, Greek subtitles.
-Single layer.
-Extras: original trailer in english without subs.

Don't know whether it really is uncut. Should be, though.

Definitely be picking this up. I wonder what will be put back in :) My guess is a faux DC a la Lethal Weapon 2 and 3 DC, etc with a silly name.

Big: Family Fun Edition
Big: Giant Piano Edition
Big: The BIG(ger) Edition
