Warners appear to be re-releasing a lot of their 2-disc sets in this foil packaging at budget price.

But what IS a foil packaging? Is it nice to see or is it crap or what?
Is it better then a normal amaray? Or a slipcase? I have no idea what to expect...

Well there's Michael Mann's Heat:

I've just ordered the normal Special Edition though for the same price. I mean, come on! Who wants foil packaging?!

Actually if you just search for "foil packaging" you get 24 results:

http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searcht ... x=0&go.y=0

There are some good films amongst that lot, with Batman Begins standing out. But £6.99 for the 2 disc set? I think this foil packaging malarky might turn out to be some really shoddy work just like the old snapper cases. I'm going to avoid them like the plague until anyone says they're any different...

Salty please describe them to us.

Are they more like a keep case, snapper or digi-pack, or something new?

Noticed these the other day when ordering Casablanca. You can get almost all the films for the same price or less already. HUGE RRP drop though, Goodfellas SE RRP is £19.99, £8.99 with this priced down release.

I'm curious about this too. But IMO thinpaks should become the standard, half the width of an amaray.

I agree with this, but I wonder a: how will that handle 2-disc releases, and b: would it be strong enough?

I'd like them to be smaller though. thank god we have left the VHS era behind :)

I stick my burnt discs in thinpaks and to be honest I'm not impressed with them. The discs stay put better than in an Amaray but the overall construction is weak, they don't opena nd close so easily and the spines are too thin for easy browsing. Not sure why I keep buying them come to think of it.

So they're just the normal amaray-cases, except they have an extra card slipcase, which has some foil (?) down the side? Weird. But I'll probably order one...

So after all that foil packaging just means slip-case :D . I guess the foil is to make it look smarter???

If you can fit 6 DVDs in a standard width keep case (the Aussie 24 Season box sets) then I'm sure you can fit 2 DVDs in a slip keep case.

At the beginning maybe but not keep case width is set I wouldn't want it to change. They'd really stand out.

If they're the same and cheaper you may as well get the foil version as you can always ditch the keep-case. I may do that if I dislike it as the grey cover looks awful.
