I've been waiting for a live version of Sukeban Deka for years !
This is going to be a masterpiece. 8)
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Nice poster!

I couldn´t find a "Dragon Tiger Gate" - topic, so I´ll post it into this topic:

It´s news about a possible sequal - how great that they spoiler almost the whole story of part one...
DRAGON TIGER GATE 2 Is Coming Next Summer

Donnie Yen has said a sequel to Dragon Tiger Gate would be available by the summer of 2007. Key figures, Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse, Shawn Yue and director Wilson Yip are expected work on the sequel. Yen said the main villain in Dragon Tiger Gate was defeated but not dead, and he would show up in the sequel. Li Xiaoran, who played the lover of Donnie Yen's character will return as her sister. Dragon Tiger Gate has been released in Hong Kong, the mainland China and Singapore last Friday.

hey,

despite liking SPL and being a fan of Wilson Yip's work, DTG hasn't excited me one bit and reviews seems to suggest it's not up to the action standard in SPL. More of an overedited mess. Pass.

Yip is more than welcome to finally head into the project about a magician, with a script by Edmond Pang.

Almost the same holds true for the other two leads, Nic Tse and "Whitey" Shawn Yue... :D

Btw: something about The Host:
Surprising nobody, much praised creature feature "The Host" has been breaking all kinds of box office records in its native Korea since its nationwide release a few days ago, having drawn in more than 3 million viewers in the shortest time ever. The film, which has since gone on to claim the highest number of weekday admissions, took just 5 days to reach 3.15 million viewers, compared with the previous record holder "Taegugki" which took more than 8 days to reach the same figure.

The Host was screening during the Auckland International Film Festival last month. I passed on it cuz it sounded like B-movie tripe.

Festivals: Cannes (Directors’ Fortnight) 2006

Fresh from wowing audiences at the Cannes Film Festival and better late than never, comes the perfect closer for this year’s ‘That’s Incredible Cinema’ programme. The juries may have been looking the other way, but there were plenty on the Croisette who considered this and Shortbus the standouts. Evoking echoes of Godzilla and the biological horrors of early David Cronenberg with B-movie zest, The Host is the kind of full-bodied horror show, both scary and hilarious, that so many filmmakers strive to generate without ever quite succeeding.

“Directed by Bong Joon-ho, who made the policier Memories of Murder, this terrific hybrid-genre fantasy about a mutant creature with a lotuslike mouth and a steady appetite has been alternately described as a monster movie and a science fiction thriller, but is also a comedy, a family drama, a political critique and, at times, a seriously scary freak-out. Mr Bong can shift moods and tones on a dime, and when the loudly appreciative audience wasn’t laughing at the witty dialogue it was shrieking at tensely wound scenes as effective as any in Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.” — Manohla Dargis, NY Times

“On almost every level, there’s never quite been a monster movie like The Host. Egregiously subverting its own genre while still delivering shocks at a pure genre level, and marbled with straight-faced character humor that constantly throws the viewer off balance, [this] much-hyped big-budgeter about a huge mutant tadpole that emerges from Seoul’s Han River is a bold gamble that looks headed to instant cult status.” — Derek Elley, Variety

The kind of guilty pleasure that midnight screenings were born to serve… At Cannes, the… audience was jumping with fright and chortling with pleasure.” — Allan Hunter, Screendaily

Ishikawa Hiroshi, director of the much-admired Tokyo.Sora, returns with his second feature, Su-Ki-Da, for which he has assembled a stellar cast of young thesps. Miyazaki Aoi (NANA), Eita (Kuchu Teien), Nagasaku Hiromi (Kuchu Teien), Kase Ryo (Scrap Heaven), Nishijima Hideotoshi (Dolls), Omori Nao (Vibrator) and Oyamada Sayuri (Bright Future) all appear in this touching romantic drama.

17-year-old Yu (Miyazaki Aoi) has a major crush on Yosuke (Eita), the handsome young boy who plays his guitar on the riverbank everyday. He plays the same tune again and again and it fills Yu's heart with joy and longing - but also with sadness. As much as she may love Yosuke, she knows that his affections lie elsewhere, with Yu's older sister, no less. Seventeen years later, Yu (now played by Nagasaku Hiromi) and Yosuke (now played by Nishijima Hideotoshi) meet by chance in Tokyo, reawakening long-dormant emotions within Yu's heart, but also within Yosuke's.

Just incase anyone is interested...i would like to give a heads up that the big budget Korean historical drama "Immortal Admiral Yi Soon-Shin" will be released on dvd this month. I have been waiting to see this for a while now, since i finished the outstanding Emperor of the Sea...and it looks fucking awesome.

Unfortunetly (but fortunetly for my wallet) it will be released edited down from the original 104 episodes to a shockingly mere 33. This has me alittle worried, but several articles i've read have me convinced that it will be ok.

The drama depicts the life and accomplishments of Admiral Yi Soon-Shin, one of the greatest naval commanders and strategists in military history. He was responsible for defending Korea against multiple Japanese invasions in the late 1500s, and defeated them massively outnumbered and against overwhelming odds.

Here is the opening sequence and links to several preview clips to give you a taste.

I love Korean history and am really looking forward to watching this drama.
I'd love to get the thoughts of one of my fellow BnB members as well

Something from HK. Looks very promising and has a good cast.

On the Edge

Image

The movie is directed by Herman Yau and the stars includes Nick Cheung (3rd form the left), Anthony Wong (1st from the left), Francis Ng (4th from the left), Rain Li (2nd from the left), Tsang Kwok-Cheung and Ho Sau-Yi. The story is something like this: After spending eight years of his life undercover as a gangster, a cop (Nick Cheung?) finally busted the boss (Francis Ng ?) and gets his life back. However, his fellow officers no longer trust him and a mysterious guy keeps following him in the street is actually from the police internal affairs. His girlfriend (Rain Li), who works at a bar, also dumps him. She is treated badly by other girls from the same bar, whose boyfriends are all from the other side of the law. Wrapped up in mid-June, after a month long shoot, this movie will be release in Hog Kong soon (Not date is set yet).
