Resurrecting this thread because of a very interesting site on Kimba the White Lion: http://www.kimbawlion.comgrim_tales wrote:I didnt know about the Kimba influences in Lion King 68M (never heard of Kimba the White Lion), but the Disney animators acknowledge influences of Shakespeare (Hamlet?) and Bible stories, probably others too.
For an extensive comparison between the two films, click on the link in the lefthand column that says "Lion King?" It will take you to a page that's top has Disney's early artwork for "King of the Jungle," the original title for "The Lion King."

Rather disgusting how blatant it is, isn't it.Kurgan wrote:As is stated if you follow the link from the68monkey, it's the fact that Disney deny all knowledge of anything Kimba related that is most grating.

It's shocking that they've been able to get away with it.
I'll be the first to admit that I never heard of Kimba before the episode of The Simpson featuring James Earl Jones doing his Darth Vader/Mufasa/CNN voice as clouds in the sky, when his Mufasa 'mistakenly' says "Avenge my death Kimba, uh, I mean Simba"; I'm not sure if it was ever aired in the UK, and if it was, it was done before my time.
But even so, it doesn't excuse plagarism of that sort. Yes, lots of filmmakers are influenced by what they have previously seen; it's how they get the 'bug' to do what they do. But most at least acknowledge their influences and try not to go down the rip off route. Woo, for instance, is always happy to point out that Scorsese and specifically Raging Bull had a huge impact on his work.
It makes me sick to my back teeth. And my front ones as well.
