Review of the Tartan UK Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Transfer is a NTSC-PAL shitfest, but the reviewer says that the Park interview is 'great'.

I'm not sure it looks all that good but check out this awesome cover art for Tartan's R1 "Cello" DVD. I don't think it's had a UK R2 release yet:

BTW the R2UK Tartan releases of Three Extremes and Dumplings Extended are redundant. The R1 Lion's Gate release of Three Extremes comes with both cuts of Dumplings.

Stupid Tartan.
Their Bittersweet Life DVD is ARccOS protected. The DVD is 6,71 gb of audio/video and 1,10 gb of junk to make your DVD-ROM drive crash.
Took me an hour to rip it.

Do you guys know of any other protected Tartan discs ? It's the first one I found so far.

The Tartan DVD is lovely. It has a few select extras, a lovely PAL Transfer and DTS to boot. I picked it up for £7.99 recently (in a retail store, last copy).

Is ARccOS protection common? I didn't know they'd changed the copy protection since that failed attempt known as RCE (not that strictly RCE is copy protection).

I've just read a bit about it and it sounds the same as the Audio CD copy protection they added a few years back. Maybe Tartan has decided to invest in it.

So the Tartan Bittersweet Life DVD would fuck up my DVD-rom player in my PC if I'd try watching it? That really sucks. It's the reason I completely stopped buying music, so I hope this isnt going to become a habbit for DVD's now...

Do you solely listen to music on your PC? Because that issue only affects CD-ROM drives which is why they come with a player that can play said music.

But no I don't believe it affects playback when it comes to DVD. I've not read any cases of it anyway unlike Audio CDs.

Do you solely watch DVDs on your PC?

Eva: I care, I can speak for Mordib when I say he cares (it's the one rule he was he was adamant on when talk of rules was brought up) and most of all the law cares.

It seems virtually every week the law stoops in and shuts down a website for publicly endorsing piracy, cracking software or circumventing copy protection. It stoops in even heavier if methods on how to get around this are allowed (this is a definite no, no).

Only this week a popular portal has had to move to another country for this very reason.

You will find it's common practise for such discussion to not be allowed. Yes personally I'd like a complete free for all but the law doesn't see it that way. As has already been discussed of course a debate on said topics is perfectly acceptable. As you know Bullets is probably the most uncensored forum on the web.

Mordib and I do virtually no moderating and generally let flame wars for example die down of their own accord.

Besides you know all this as you were involved in the last discussion.

So why is movie bootlegging exempt from this argument?

Eg you going "Ah, that site has all the David Lynch short films available for download, will save me from buying the actual DVD."; Yi's latest bitchfest about no proper DVDs w/ Eng subs of the director's cut of the latest hottest Asian film being unavailable (i.e. Fearless), thus making him swearing off buying the real DVDs; the best type of DVDR media to use for making bootlegs, etc.

I've just seen this in the latest Total Film magazine and it looks a nice set.

It also comes in a regular trilogy which has 2 disc editions for each film (not sure if it really newly remastered or the existing prints from the individual releases), inc. the fade to black edition for Lady Vengeance.

But the Deluxe Edition seems to have some nice goodies (if you like that sort of thing):

Oldboy hammer bottle opener
Lady Vengeance "gun blueprint" poster replica thingy
Lobby Cards
Packaging is a replica of the Oldboy Gift Box

Sounds like a rival for the Korean copper tin edition?

It's a bit pricey at £60+ (at Play and also a place called dvd.co.uk), but if it pops up cheaper somewhere (say amazon) I may get it.

I'm interested in the 6 Disc Trilogy box set (if like Eva it's remastered) but tbh the Tartan Old Boy is already very good and I'm only interested in the two cuts for SFLV, of which I already have.

That just leaves SFMV which the box set version looks to be the only decent version. But as it's only 1 out of the 3 which need upgrading I'll probably just get the R1 or R4.

I'm not convinced I'll like it too, hearing it's very different from Old Boy.

Does anyone here own Tartan's A Bittersweet Life? What music is playing during the corridor scene near the end. Is the same music that plays when the main character's hand is broken and he is buried. I'm asking because that music plays on my KR Dir. Cut dvd, but there was a different music on the festival print I saw (which had a Tartan logo on it).

Also, quality wise; is there any edge enhancement? The Korean disc looks beautiful except from the ugly edge enhancement. There's a french release coming soon but knowing Studion Canal there's gonna be just as much EE as on the KR dvd. And I'm not very exited viewing this movie with yellow subs (Eastern Eye) so that leaves Tartan. But only if it's the correct version and has no or less EE that my KR disc.

Nope, it's not exactly the same track.
The corridor track is like an extension of the track you're referring to.
But it's more powerful, more extreme.

There's some edge-enhancement visible, but it's not excessive.

Not exactly the same track? As far as I remember the tracks are very different. But I'll check my dvd tomorrow to make sure it's indeed the exact same music in both scenes.

I've got to go to sleep now (it's past midnight and I've got to be at work at 7:15) but I'll make a comparison topic tomorrow when I get back home.

Let's be clear about this:

You're talking about the scene with the hand breaking and the subsequent grave-digging and live burial, right ?

It's a soft ballad, similar to the OldBoy soundtrack.

The second track starts with Sun-Woo in the elevator and ends with the face to face between Sun-Woo and his boss.

It's a different soundtrack. More tragic, more nostalgic. But it sounds like a continuation of the earlier track.
