DVDs to take on holiday?

Post by grim_tales »

I'm going on holiday this weekend, and have heard the place where we're staying has a DVD player with the TV. I bought one of those CD/DVD pouch things that has enough for 16 discs, and I was wondering what to take :)

Most likely I can only take R2 DVDs (I think). What region is Greece anyway? :?

Greece is region 2 naturally. Just make sure no-one thinks you're importing them, or that they bootlegs or whatever. Just in case customs are a bunch of biatches.

How many greek guys are you gonna pick up btw? :P

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Why you little.....! :D

Would it be best to take DVDs in hand luggage? :? I'm thinking if they go through the "checking" thing at airports that checks for electrical stuff (whatever its called), it might mess them up? :? I dont want that.

In an interview Samuel L. Jackson said that he loved Shaw Brothers flicks so much, because there are so many of them, which means that wherever he is traveling for holiday or shooting, he takes those Shaw flicks from his collection with him, that he hadn't seen before.

uhm....why would you want to spend the time watching movies when your in a beautiful country? im sure they have a nightlife. wouldnt it be a cool and novel idea to actually go out and explore to city and its culture and nightlife? lol just a thought...

it really doesnt make sense to me to go on holiday and then sit and watch movies...unles the weather is shit but theres still palces to go, things to see...

Uhm... I guess we have an infidel here. :D

Seriously, though, I am sure grim will do exactly what you suggested, Shen, but after along day of walking around Athen or so, I'd just sit down in my hotel room and watch a film.

true it just seems a pointless exercise to take dvds with you, wouldnt it be cooler to go and rest in a resturaunt or such, even if it is a little more expensive.

personally i have never once stayed in a hotel, i only ever went abroad 3 times, to the same place, to see a friend and crashed at there house, so i never hadthe need to take dvds with me, they already had dvds there :D

but anywya i agree with what LD said or rather what Samuel L Jackson said, take trhe dvds of movies you havent seen yet,

Havent seen OUATITW yet :)

Don't worry, we'll be going out to restaurants all the time :D TBH I'm not sure we're staying (I'm going with my mum/aunt/ucle BTW) but its not really a hotel. More appartment.

Thought I'd take something like these:

Blackadder II, III, IV
Once Upon A Time In The West (not seen)
Gone With The Wind (too long?) (seen but not on the new 4 discer)
Fist of Fury (or some other HK movie?) Maybe A Better Tomorrow, any ideas? Havent watched that one in a while.

No offence Grim but you're taking DVDs on holiday? A MP3 Player sure but watching films while away.

My Dad drove all the way to Wales (from the South West) where he has a flat and stayed in with his girlfriend all week and watched a whole season of 24???

I wouldn't take DVDs on holiday. No point paying a bunch o' money to go someplace else to do what you'd do in your room at home.

Fair enough Salty. Honestly I'm not going to watch DVDs all the time, but there's a player/TV there so why not?

The thing is if you turn that TV on you will end up watching far more of it than you plan, talking from experience. It's usually hard to resist the urge to not turn the TV on but a quick 5 minute look can turn into half an hour.

Think I'll probably take Fist of Fury or something (one of the Bruce films) along with Blackadders and OUATITW :) I dont want to take something where I'd miss a surround set up particularly.

I'm sure GWTW would be to long.

I agree. A 2 hour film tops (I know OUATITW is a bit longer but its no GWTW).
