i'm looking forward to that Shinjuku project you're talking about. I love seeing Jackie in a more serious and realistic role.thelostdragon wrote:According to Jackie himself there won't be. It will be a very serious and dark crime film. He said that after "New Police Story" he played a general and an archeologist in "The Myth". So two roles in one movie. Next he played in a 100% comedy film. And after that he would play a very serious character in Derek Yee's "Shinjuku Incident". According to Jackie he wants to show his versatility as an actor.grim_tales wrote:Sinjuku Incident looks interesting, I'm sure they'll be some goofy "Jackie" stuff in there somewhere.
I believe he can do it. People will just have to accept it. Friends of mine were disappointed by "New Police Story" as they weren't used to a crying and serious Jackie. They were expecting to watch JC slapstick and JC as the clown again.
Over the years, Jackie has put himself into a category out of which he will have a hard time to escape. Not so Jet Li (apart from the martial arts factor).
HOWEVER... New Police Story was dissapointing. Jackie's acting was over the top, and because the rest of the story was so ridiculous, with comic-book 2-dimensional villains in ugly clothes and hairdo's, it seems way out of place. The whole movie was set-up like a slick action-flick with OTT villains, and Jackie is trying to realistically play a depressed drunken ex-cop. It just seemed a bit out of place.
I liked both Rush Hours as movies, but when judged on ACTION, I dont rate them all that high. I quite liked Shanghai Knights (which was a big surprised, as I thought Shanghai noon was boring as hell), but it's a shame the fights were cut short.
Jet Li; I LOVE jet Li. Great martial artist, and a great actor. Yes, I said GREAT. Ok... maybe just VERY GOOD (he isnt near Leslie's or Tony's level).
Kiss of the Dragon would have been a great movie, if it wasnt for 3 things:
1: Fonda, one of the most annoying characters in a movie EVER. Totally ruins the flick.
2: The editing/framing of the fightscenes. Although nowhere near as bad as Bourne Supremacy, it isnt very good either.
3: the ridiculous acupunture ending of the villain. not only wuld I have prefered a main villain that can fight, but it was unnecesarily bloody/gory as well. I dont mind gore and blood all that much, but I do when it's got no other purpose then being bloody and gory.
...It's an anjoyable movie to watch though. I believe I rated it a 9/10 in my review afterI had first seen it (in Hong Kong)
Jet is cool as hell in the flick, and it's got a nice story, plus it moves along at a nice pace. As an actionflick, especially as a western actionflick, it's just a pretty good movie.
