Taken from the front page of Asian DVD Guide. Here's your chance to have your say::
"Joy Sales Fortune Star Releases:
As the new Fortune Star distributor in Hong Kong, Joy Sales will be releasing non-digitally remastered and digitally remastered DVDs in the near future. They are currently seeking feedback from Hong Kong movie fans:
Introduction
Ballot #1
Joy Sales would like your opinion on which films should be released on non-digitally remastered DVDs first. The films with the most votes will get released first and films with the least votes will get released at a later date. Films scheduled to be digitally remastered have been excluded from the ballot.
Ballot #2
Joy Sales would like your opinion on various DVD features."
I've never heard of any of the films. Any I should vote for? I don't see any big ones.
Stupid name for a company but they're off to a good start. I guess it's inevitable but it's still a pity they're not all being remastered.

hey,
Joy Sales are reaching out and showing some initiative now when licensing the FS catalogue. That is the best thing I've seen in years. Now, if they could only live up to the fans demands that they wanted to hear 8some were outrageous even by my standards), we may have a new winner on our hands.
My votes mostly went out to old Golden Harvest classics because they really deserve a spotlight but other personal favs includea Devil Fetus, Her Vengeance, School On Fire, Doctor Vampire, Farewell China etc etc.
Has to be said that Joy Sales initial titles in 2005, the testers if you will, weren't a good indication. 5.1 only or cut to shreads for Long Arm Of The Law III and the Possessed series. That was before they went out and requested input though.

Sorry what does that mean Knetan?
What I did read into that questionnaire was they're working out what is a priority so if you prefer but don't mind for example 5.1 remixes say you don't want them.
I really don't see the point Joy Sales releasing both PAL and NTSC it will only take money away from other departments. I prefer PAL but am more than happy for them to be all NTSC. I went for the middle price point because of course we want them as cheap as possible but putting that will only mean rubbish DVDs.
I'm guessing by reading that box sets are here to stay
The problem is I'm a fan and what I want on a DVD is very different from what you Knetan want. In order of preference that is.
p.s - Bare in mind NOT all are going to be remastered so we need to see how the Remastered DVDs cope as the non-remastered ones are going to be dodgy, that much we do know. That link says 1 in a 6 will be remastered.

hey,
If you're referring to my reply to tom's, I mean several of the titles mentioned such as Lunatics, Seventh Curse, Carry On Pickpocket have at one point been on budget HK dvd's of acceptable quality but are oop today. I remember The Lunatics being particularly good. Good print and original mono. No need to spice up that harrowing film.Sorry what does that mean Knetan?

hey,
I would say it's Lethal Weapon inspired, not spoofed.
I've always liked it as braindead entertainment. It's one of them in between films for Stephen Chow where he's not being Stephen Chow but the banter with Jacky Cheung is all right. Action scenes are fine products of the era and basically the main selling point. The English dub included on the new dvd is apparently rare and I know some were very disappointed when it was 5.1 only.

Ah, that's great to hear, thanks. Hope it will be soon. I'll buy it right away upon its release day. Although the image quality is acceptable, I'd like to see it digitally remastered and with new subs.Knetan wrote:hey,
I heard it's being remastered for Megastar's own Golden Collection, that have included 5.1 versions only for the likes of Days Of Being Wild and Curry & Pepper.

Don't the Megastar "Golden Collection" imprint claim that the titles are taken from remastered HD masters? New subs would be cool though.thelostdragon wrote: Although the image quality is acceptable, I'd like to see it digitally remastered and with new subs.
Knetan, how are the English subs on the "Golden Collection" releases of Days of Being Wild and As Tears Go By?

hey,
yea but what does HD mean today when some sources are still extremely poor, like what we see coming from the vaults of Hui Productions? You learn to deal with what you have image-wise but to still be stuck entirely in 5.1 land is a bit uncool.
Never bought any of the Golden Collection so far. Don't be surprised if the subs aren't upgraded. Waiting for Final Justice myself.

From what I've heard they're actually worse than the original subs. The picture quality wasn't much better either (some even prefferd the original MS release, though the remaster should be much cleaner).EvaUnit02 wrote:how are the English subs on the "Golden Collection" releases of Days of Being Wild
Didn't someone here buy MS GC ATGB? I'm still wondering wheter I should get the Golden Collection or the TF1 release...

Looks as though the titles already released in HK by IVL are currently retained by that company. So no new DVDs of Police Story, OUATIC, A Better Tomorrow, etc, for the foreseeable future. Fox were planning R1 DVDs of Police Story 1&2 so that's something at least (mind you they've been alarmingly quiet since last October).
