Mission Impossible movies

Post by grim_tales »

For some strange reason when I saw the MI 3 trailer at the movies (looked pretty good) I thought of revisiting the other 2. What are the best DVDs? :)
Unfortunately I don't think there is an uncut DVD of M1 2 (thanks to the MPAA), which is a shame. Is that right? :?

Do you know about MI2 - wonder if that will get a re-release?

MI needs extras! Remember these are Paramount DVDs so don't expect 2 disc Special Editions, Paramount rarely give us these.

What's your source Salty? MI:2 doesn't need a re-release.

The cuts you cite sound like the very common cuts that the MPAA insist upon and therefore are never released because it's easier to force the American cut on the rest of the world too. So in essence we'll never see them; phew that was a mouthful :D

As for the current DVD it's already a tip top DVD and is cheap as chips here:

£5.95 - http://www.dvd.co.uk/product.asp?id=PHE8045
£5.99 - http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=651205

But the region isn't important they're all the same. The R1 is roughly the same price from DVD Pacific.

I say:

And you reply (with a question mark too):

What The Fuck! Comes to mind.
Cheers.

I wish DVD Times would post rumours and early news. Often the likes of DVD Active get there first as DVD Times insist for the most part waiting for it to be 100% official.

I wouldn't mind but the site upgrade makes DVD Active much harder to navigate, even if it looks nicer.

Ironically, M:I2 was uncut in UK cinemas, as was Charlie's Angels.

But it's cut on DVD?

Nope Mission Impossible 1 is anamorphic on UK R2 and R4 but non-anamorphic on R1. All only have the trailer.

If it is cut Brad (you seem to say it is) that sucks. Rewind say all regions have "No cuts" - I think thats wrong though.

Nope Mark says it's cut (didn't you spot the question mark after my comment?) and don't trust Rewind, you should know by now

The MPAA made a few small trims to violence for a PG-13 to M:I2.

The UK cinema version, '15' here, but equivilent to an 'R', was uncut - but all DVDs worldwide got the same pre-cut PG-13 version.

Unless Paramount do an "unrated" cut we won't see the film intact.

Some of the minor cuts include: the sound of the scientist's neck being broken, the real Cruise being kicked in the face, the fake Cruise being kneecapped. That's the main ones I can recall. There maybe a more complete list on-line somewhere?

Do Paramount release Unrated DVDs? I don't think they do.

It doesn't sound like anything "I'd" miss.

Can't think of any.

You wouldn't have noticed the cuts until I told you. Mostly it's a matter of frames.

They do now. They released an unrated Team America DVD and recently announced an unrated release of the Joe Eszterhas junk Sliver.[/quote]

I wouldn't expect many features on the M:I1 SE aside from promo fluff, since DePalma doesn't look like he likes DVDs much (he's never done a commentary for example - obviously one of the dudes from "the films should speak for themselves" school of thought like Spielberg.).

Actually, that wasn't as bad as I was led to believe by critics at the time... I wonder if this UNRATED cut will be a DIRECTOR'S cut and restore the original ending...? Not saying it would make it "a great movie" per se but it would help I think sway naysayers.

Didn't he record a commentary for "Scarface". At least he appears in my Finnish DVD's special features.

To be fair I imagine dissecting past work and especially commentaries could be pretty dull. They've often moved on.

Agreed.

Yeah that's a great documentary but I'd love a commentary.

"We've got a few new DVD announcements to report this morning. First up, Paramount has revealed that they'll debut a Mission: Impossible 10th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition on 4/11. It'll be a single-disc set, but there's no word yet on the extras."
