Unfortunately I don't think there is an uncut DVD of M1 2 (thanks to the MPAA), which is a shame. Is that right?

Mission Impossible movies
For some strange reason when I saw the MI 3 trailer at the movies (looked pretty good) I thought of revisiting the other 2. What are the best DVDs?

MI needs extras! Remember these are Paramount DVDs so don't expect 2 disc Special Editions, Paramount rarely give us these.
What's your source Salty? MI:2 doesn't need a re-release.
The cuts you cite sound like the very common cuts that the MPAA insist upon and therefore are never released because it's easier to force the American cut on the rest of the world too. So in essence we'll never see them; phew that was a mouthful
As for the current DVD it's already a tip top DVD and is cheap as chips here:
£5.95 - http://www.dvd.co.uk/product.asp?id=PHE8045
£5.99 - http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=651205
But the region isn't important they're all the same. The R1 is roughly the same price from DVD Pacific.

I say:
I wish DVD Times would post rumours and early news. Often the likes of DVD Active get there first as DVD Times insist for the most part waiting for it to be 100% official.
I wouldn't mind but the site upgrade makes DVD Active much harder to navigate, even if it looks nicer.
And you reply (with a question mark too):But the region isn't important they're all the same.
What The Fuck! Comes to mind.grim_tales wrote:I guess all versions of MI-2 are the same then?

The MPAA made a few small trims to violence for a PG-13 to M:I2.
The UK cinema version, '15' here, but equivilent to an 'R', was uncut - but all DVDs worldwide got the same pre-cut PG-13 version.
Unless Paramount do an "unrated" cut we won't see the film intact.
Some of the minor cuts include: the sound of the scientist's neck being broken, the real Cruise being kicked in the face, the fake Cruise being kneecapped. That's the main ones I can recall. There maybe a more complete list on-line somewhere?

Nope sure wouldn't.Markgway wrote:You wouldn't have noticed the cuts until I told you. Mostly it's a matter of frames.

They do now. They released an unrated Team America DVD and recently announced an unrated release of the Joe Eszterhas junk Sliver.[/quote]bradavon wrote:Do Paramount release Unrated DVDs?
I wouldn't expect many features on the M:I1 SE aside from promo fluff, since DePalma doesn't look like he likes DVDs much (he's never done a commentary for example - obviously one of the dudes from "the films should speak for themselves" school of thought like Spielberg.).

Actually, that wasn't as bad as I was led to believe by critics at the time... I wonder if this UNRATED cut will be a DIRECTOR'S cut and restore the original ending...? Not saying it would make it "a great movie" per se but it would help I think sway naysayers.EvaUnit02 wrote:recently announced an unrated release of the Joe Eszterhas junk Sliver.

To be fair I imagine dissecting past work and especially commentaries could be pretty dull. They've often moved on.
Agreed.Markgway wrote:Sliver - Actually, that wasn't as bad as I was led to believe by critics at the time...
Yeah that's a great documentary but I'd love a commentary.thelostdragon wrote:Didn't he record a commentary for "Scarface". At least he appears in my Finnish DVD's special features.

"We've got a few new DVD announcements to report this morning. First up, Paramount has revealed that they'll debut a Mission: Impossible 10th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition on 4/11. It'll be a single-disc set, but there's no word yet on the extras."
