Cantonese wouldn't sound right to me. The film is very much set in Mainland China.

WTF is this ?

http://www3.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2 ... code=23381

3-Disc edition with DTS and a subtitled Director's Commentary ?!

But it looks like it's still the short version (153 minutes).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

But damn expensive as well.

Watched the usual DVD version yesterday for the first time, I'm giving the film 3.5/5.

I second that 3.5 out of 5 or 6 out of 10.

BTW, "Seven Swords" will soon be running in UK theatres. Do you think it will be cut due to animal cruelty? There were 2 scenes in it where horses were smashed a few meters away before dropping to the ground.

I hope not.

When will the BBFC learn that these horses are professional stunt horses that have been falling on the ground every single day since they were old enough to stand ?

Yeah, but were they asked to if they wanted to become stunt horses? I think that is the problem.

yeah, but using that logic, pretty much everything can be branded animal-abuse. Perhaps a horse is standing in a big green sunny field somewhere, but he's miserably unhappy cause his big dream was to be a racehorse... he wanted to make something of his life! He wanted to be a STAR! ... but alas... nobody cared enough to ASK him what he WANTED..... so now he's left useless the rest of his life, grazing ina field of grass... ;)

I'm sure these horses are cared for with lots of love and attention by people who will handle them very well (in most cases, exceptions will always be around). I bet these horses come home after a long days work and enjoy bragging about their carreer in movies to the other horses.

Being a horse in the movie Alexander: Now THAT's cruel. Imagine that one on your resume...

That doesn't make it right but LD isn't exactly right as the horse stunts in Braveheart were allowed as Mel Gibson proved it was all stunts.

If they'd used stunts, camera tricks or a machine (again camera trick) it would've passed uncut and quite frankly no one would've even noticed. They're so good at it.

Do we even know if Tsui Hark will release *his* cut of the film on DVD? He may not do.

All the big horse stunts in "Braveheart" were performed by very expensive mechanical horses. Having them especially made for the production was one of the major cost of the whole production.

What about all the other Western horse falls? It's only Asian films that get cut ergo Western film-makers think of ways around it.

I agree Brad, thats why I get annoyed when people whine about the film being cut  You could be missing out on a great film, yes it is cut but just think of it as a Theatrical Cut IMO. You could wait years for the DC to come out.

I heard Tsui Hark had a chat with Jonathan Mostow and Ridley Scott the other day.

It was agreed when Mostow releases Terminator 3: Extended Edition and Scott gives us Blade Runner: The Super, Extended, Amazing, Fantastic, Fabulous, Special, Collectors, Uber Cool, Outstanding, Director's Cut Edition Hark will unleash Seven Swords: Look how big my sword is edition.

The animal cruelty on film laws over there is a definite sign of "PC gone mad". They're trampling on directors's creative freedom. They're times when liberals are just too damn liberal for their own good.

On the 4 hour cut of SS - The 150min cut is perfect IMO, the pacing is great. Honestly, who cares if minor supporting cast like the monobrow'd bald bloke wasn't anymore than a 2D cut-out? It's an action blockbuster FFS.

SS is great IMO. It shits over all over-rated films like Hero and HoFD.

I disagree when being liberal is in place as you put it to prevent animal cruelty or even if they're trained animal suffering.

OMG!

Seven Swords (like Kingdom of Heaven) felt cut, that's the problem for me. If it was cut but felt fine then I wouldn't be all that bother but would still checkout the uncut version.

Hero and HOFD are vastly superior IMO.

It was very good but felt cut for me too Brad (Seven Swords that is).
Hero/HOFD are superb pieces of cinema.

Hero was okay. HoFD is a fucking terribly written mess with good action and cinematography.
