Fuck fuck fuck. I'm not paying a penny for that piece of shit. From what I've heard about the Japanese cut Miki Mizuno is the best thing in the film... and her character has been almost completely deleted from the international version.

I'm still hoping it would be some kind of mistake... that they actually had both versions, and the screener discs featured only the short one... but then, it has the Jasper Sharp commentary, too, so I guess that can't be the case...

Do they have a facebook page or something where you could ask about this?

I see they didn't change the brightness level from the Japanese standard, which DVD Beaver doesn't realise

Regarding the two versions of the film (2:23 assembling at Cannes and assembling for 1:58 in theaters), which is your favorite and why?
The one I personally prefer the version is shorter. But I like the long version also much, it's my job. It turns out that shortening the film, I found the short version more interesting. It's like two variations of the same work, different.

It's the same as Bright Future then, Kiyoshi Kurosawa was asked to cut it down for the international version, and he then ended up slightly preferring that one. But as with Bright Future, I want the original cut of Guilty of Romance.

No, they (=Eureka) seemed to prefer the shorter version. And now they justify it with some formal bullshit statement Sono gave to a French reporter in France when the International Version was offered for distributors and the press asked which version he prefers...

Many other people, though, seem to think the International Version loses the film's best parts.

Solid performances (even from the former gravure idol Megumi Kagurazaka) and some stylish visuals can’t overcome the fact that Sono has done too many movies in the similar vein before, although with less drama emphasis. At nearly 2½ hours the films comes out a drawn-out arthouse-exploitation effort with occasional violence and frequent full frontal nudity from each of the three female protagonists.
