Not now, but she was a few years ago. Edit: When she was 19, and had given it up by 2007.

When she was starting out as a pop star with dark hair, when do you think lol.

I thought Kylie Minogue was considered fairly squeaky clean back in the 80's - an artist of the SAW production line....
Take the point about Madonna though, she did cause controversy at times.

Still obviously Gaga is 100% acting, she is an actress putting on a show, and it is working - so job done - even if it has all been done in the past. The Now is all that counts, and right now she is making more cash that god, Jacko and Elvis combined  she cannot play the Guitar as well as Elvis, or dance as funkily as Jacko, but hey she has them funky costumes and a fake Penis rumor that keeps her in the spotlight  all media is good media.

You really do like to spout insanely exaggerated bollocks don't you romero!

From wikipedia:
"Presley staged the first concert broadcast globally via satellite, Aloha from Hawaii, seen by approximately 1.5 billion viewers". This is from an artist who came out before the internet and MTV.
right now she is making more cash that god, Jacko and Elvis combined
Considering GaGa has sold around 10million albums and 35million singles worldwide and Jacko and Elvis are both the 2 greatest selling solo-artists artists of all time and two of the most widely watched live acts of all time, I smell a monumental amount of BULLSHIT emanating from your post!  :icon_suspect:

Ha ha. "Romero the king of exaggerated bollocks".

GaGa is apparently a big Jacko fan. I imagine, not even she would say she's bigger than Jacko. Which is bollocks, obviously both Presley and Jacko are bigger, then and definitely still now. Given that she's only been around 2 years, she's doing incredibly well but lets put it in context. I appreciate Romero, something you find nigh on impossible to do :D.

She was. GaGa still clearly takes some inspiration from her and Madonna.

Classic Romero overstatement. She'll be forgotten in about 15 mins. The bizarro stage acts and appearence are designed to disguise the utter lack of originality in her music.

Maybe he was meaning at this point in time she's making more money than those other people... Cause she is probably the biggest selling artist at the moment?

15 minutes? I wouldn't go that far Mark. Both her album and singles shoot to number 1, no problem. She'll be hear for several years yet. No one her big lasts 15 minutes.

I wouldn't also say she has no originality. She's taken what's come before and updated it for the modern world. Obviously it's nothing outright new but she's definitely got talent. Besides, having little originality never hurt Tarantino.

To be fair, he probably did but is that even correct still? Jacko is still selling millions.

I can't tell Gaga apart from the other stuff in the charts. The only one I know by listen is Poker Face because it's been so heavily airplayed. I didn't find anything original or mind-blowing about it. Today's number one super-hot megastar is tomorrow's hasbeen.

Check out the Telephone video I posted. If nothing else, I reckon you may like it. When was the last time a 9 minute music video was released? Jacko maybe.

If she's still number one in five years maybe then I'll start being impressed.

Right now it's hype.

From 15 minutes to 5 years :D. It's already been 2 years or 1 year, she's consistently been at the top.

I take it you expect all artists to be around 5 years before you're impressed then?

Good point. I've pointed him to the Telephone video, which I'm guessing he's not watched.

I'm not a big fan, don't get me wrong and I find her more interesting than her music but she is different from most pop stars (how much I won't get into). She's not manufactured for one.

There's a big diff between one year and two. Liberty X were big for a year. Now where are they? Fads come and go.

In terms of longevity? Yes. More than five years. I don't particularly care for the style of music so is there any other reason I should be impressed?

You think Queen are overrated. There's really nothing more we can say.
Markgway wrote:There's a big diff between one year and two. Liberty X were big for a year. Now where are they? Fads come and go.
Liberty X were heavily manufactured, GaGa isn't. Yes it's still commercial pop but she's the one running the show. If you'd watched the video you'd see that. There's not much point having a discussion if you cannot even be bothered to watch/listen to what you're talking about.

How exactly are Queen over-rated?

Their music has been popular for decades; a lot of their songs are known very well by people from many different generations, even kids nowadays know and like Queen songs, despite all the other manufactured pop going on around them.

When they were around as a band they were one of the biggest bands in the world; at the Live Aid/Band Aid (can't remember which one) concert they were said to have stolen the show as their performance was that good compared to everyone else (they were one of the few bands that rehearsed for their ~20min set); they sold lots of records and were quite influential in the music industry...

I'm sure someone more in the know will be able to cite more examples of how Queen were not over-rated.

Over-rating usually comes by the media hyping someone up and the public following like sheep. That did not happen with Queen.
