Plasmas are more expensive
Cost is a factor I'm afraid.

LED TV's are uber expensive.

is there a problem with Sharp BD Players then?to avoid at all cost you'd think we were talking about a bush, matsui or something!bradavon wrote:I'd avoid this at all cost, especially as the Sony is so cheap. Who owns Sharp BD Players?saltysam wrote:HMV are doing a Sharp player for £99,don't know what it's like though.
And?Optimum for example are using coding more & more so i am right.anyway i'm multi-region so it doesn't matter to me,i'm just saying that if i was going to get myself stuck with one Region it would be B,i used to think the opposite.bradavon wrote:You were the one saying they're bound to use it more in the future at some point.

A lot more? I've no idea. Fair point then. I'm sure you'd be happy with LCD.grim_tales wrote:Plasmas are more expensiveCost is a factor I'm afraid.
Of coursegrim_tales wrote:Not necessarily better, both have advantages and disadvantages
Fair point. I only meant next to a £99 Sony and the fact Sharp's aren't owned enough to trust, IMO.saltysam wrote:Is there a problem with Sharp BD Players then?to avoid at all cost you'd think we were talking about a bush, matsui or something!
Fair enough.saltysam wrote:i'm just saying that if i was going to get myself stuck with one Region it would be B,i used to think the opposite.

We got the 40" Sony KDL V4000 at the New Year.
Haven't had a chance to check out any HD signals yet but the TV got great ***** reviews.
If you're considering HDTV or Blu-Ray I would suggest going for a 40" screen. Anything less will diminish the impact.

Re: Is this a good BD player?
Is that a reason not to buy it? I mean it's not as if we're talking a huge amount here, it's a TV. If they're better it wouldn't stop me getting one. I think they're better than they used to be.saltysam wrote:Plasma is good but (i may be wrong) i hear they are power-hungry.
It really depends how big the room is though and if you could fit such a size. I'd upgrade to 37" now but not higher, certainly not bigger than 40" no way.Markgway wrote:I would suggest going for a 40" screen. Anything less will diminish the impact.

couldn't go back to a small screen now.even watching films on the upstairs 27" films look so tiny.bradavon wrote:It really depends how big the room is though and if you could fit such a size. I'd upgrade to 37" now but not higher, certainly not bigger than 40" no way.

Re: Is this a good BD player?
If I can fit 28" CRT I can fit 37" LCD/Plasma - as they're physically the same size. I need to look at it though to convince otherwise I'll end up going back to a 14" portable. (
) As far as I can see I'd hardly be craning upwards to watch 32"/37" FGS!

Re: Is this a good BD player?
You're probably right but with LED costing a bomb and the fact they're still better than LCD, they're still the way to go for quality. Price aside of course.saltysam wrote:Plasmas seem to be on their way out (though IM will disagree) they are always going cheap in Richer/TJ's 50inch screens for £600-£700.
Isn't that cost instead of the fact they're going out? In today's economy.saltysam wrote:even pioneer have stopped production unless i'm mistaken.
Me either but Grim only has 28" (CRT) at the moment. I still say a TV should complement a room. I'd never go bigger than 40" in my front room, even that would probably engulf it. I hate seeing an overpowering TV in a room when it's not being used.saltysam wrote:couldn't go back to a small screen now.even watching films on the upstairs 27" films look so tiny.
How do you work that one out? The 37" will be much taller.grim_tales wrote:If I can fit 28" CRT I can fit 37" LCD/Plasma - as they're physically the same size.

My 47" looks fine in my bedroom, probably because it doesn't exceed the length of the desk its on.

Re: Is this a good BD player?
It's amazing how quickly a MASSIVE screen becomes a quite big one after a few months. Anything less than 40" would look too small to me now. If I bought another TV (no plans, natch) it would be at least 40", probably greater. TVs are obviously expensive so think careful before you settle on something just because it's a bit cheaper. You'll be stuck with it for a few years at any rate.

Indeed, the novelty soon wears off and you crave an even larger screen.

Re: Is this a good BD player?
Won't 37" only be just a little taller? Think of the area round the sides of a W/S CRT and replace that with more 'screen' - then you have 37" I think).

I don't. I'd like a bigger screen but no way do I crave one. I crave a new mobile phone (when Windows Mobile 7 comes), a new Car Stereo and Freeview HD way more.gasteropod wrote:Indeed, the novelty soon wears off and you crave an even larger screen.
I'd say I'm 75% happy with my TVs current size and no way would I go bigger than 40". I must be the only one who cares about how my front room looks, instead of dumping a 60" TV in there and not being able to see anything else. This is particularly an issue when you have parties/friends around and the TV is off. Maybe it's different as it's a front room not bedroom, which I think except for Salty accounts for everyone.
How so? Sure the width maybe but the height would have to be much more, no? If you're so sure, why are you even debating it?grim_tales wrote:Won't 37" only be just a little taller? Think of the area round the sides of a W/S CRT and replace that with more 'screen' - then you have 37" I think).
