That's why most threads are filled with nothing but complaints.

I reckon that if a film is good you could chop it up and have it reassembled by those Shakeapeare writing monkeys with no ill effect. I don't mind small changes, in truth I often hardly notice them. I'll be damned if I can easily tell the difference between the various cuts of Blade Runnner, and who cares of Han doesn't shoot first - it means nothing. I feel it does no hamr if a director decides they want to update their film or a little or has the freedom to return to a proejct they were never happy with, or had control over. We often discuss the diorectors intentions with DVD transfers, what's the difference here? It's green tint.

Of course you could all be going on about something else entirely but I'm not fucking reading anything that featuring Brad and post dissection.

Me neither.
Lourdes wrote:I'll be damned if I can easily tell the difference between the various cuts of Blade Runnner
The differences between the Theatrical Cut, Director's Cut and Final Cut are extensive. I cannot tell the difference between the International and American Theatrical Cut though.
Lourdes wrote:and who cares of Han doesn't shoot first - it means nothing.
It worked better how it was originally shown but agreed I don't particularly care.
Lourdes wrote:We often discuss the diorectors intentions with DVD transfers, what's the difference here?
Agreed. You raise a valid point.

Those are different though. Re-cutting/altering a film is often more drastic than different remastering processes.

If the subs are good I'd give it ago, fast forward it to the end to see how long it is too.

Ashes of Time Redux - 3.5/5

A sumptuous visual and aural feast that demands to be seen in theatres. Frankie Chan's haunting score (that I was already familiar with, thanks to TheLostDragon.) fits every scene perfectly.

Leslie Cheung dominates this film. Ouyang Feng will definitely be a role that will come to the surface whenever I think about this actor, from now on.

The story itself is a series of connected vignettes about mostly lovelorn individuals... Wong Kar Wai by the numbers really. I found the Brigitte Lin story to be the most entertaining.

P.S. This is the only version of the film that I've seen.

Brad I think the Bullet In The Head DVD with the longer cut is the Bullet In The Head Ultimate Edition (or something like that) by JS, not sure.

Thanks Tom.

What is it with Asian servers and shit bandwidth. The 720p trailer is only downloading at 27Kb a second, at this rate it will take an hour to download a 100Mb file.

Where's the BD? They're supposed to be releasing it on BD too. I'm guessing the DVD is just a re-release.

I used to own it and it's nowhere near as good as the Remastered R3. Yi you're not missing out.

All the Kino WKW releases were interlaced IIRC. Their DVD SE is still the best AFFORDABLE release of Happy Together. Fuck paying $130 odd for the Taiwan/HK release with the lava lamp and boxers.

I cannot believe that's still not been re-released without the LE crap for an affordable price.

I only re-bought the R1 SE not long ago (when I sold my box set). I'd much prefer that cover art. Oh well, it's just cover art.

EDIT: Presuming the HKFlix listing is correct, this is more than just a new cover. Kino have added:

Happy Together:

# Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
# 2008 Documentary: "Wong Kar-Wai At The Museum Of The Moving Image" (44 mins.)

Fallen Angels:

# Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
# 3 Behind The Scenes Featurettes
# Christopher Doyle Interview

But they appear to have removed the DD2.0 from the previous SE. The 5.1 remixes for the R3 SEs of Fallen Angels and Chunking Express are decent, these maybe too.

I doubt Fallen Angels betters the R3 SE but I wonder how Happy Together fairs.

Maybe these are the new remasters. Didn't they lack 2.0?

Yep, correct.

The Happy Together HK LE has DTS and DD5.1 but no DD2.0. As do the Korean SEs of Chunking Express and Fallen Angels (I imagine the HK SEs are the same).
