I'm afraid you're alone there making a big deal of this. I was just expressing an opinion with intentional strong wording. But I was a bit surprised that you tried tell me I shouldn't be telling my opinion, and that it was ignorant of me to publicly post such thoughts. To me it sounded like you took this a bit too serious, instead of enjoying the debate, which is why I jokingly said "Anyway, calm down, man. I didn't say anything about your girlfriend, I said the new transfer looks shit."Shingster wrote:WTF? Someone posts on an internet forum that they think an opinion you expressed is wrong and all of a sudden they're making an angry rant against you?Anyway, calm down, man. Comoon Shing. You know I have never taken offence on this board (or any other) and constantly try to start debates. Not even Brad (:D) has ever got on my nerves.Shingster wrote: Is your life really that charmed that you can't handle straightforward debate?
That would be nice.Shingster wrote: If you want me to go into more detail on this, I can.
Thanks for the screencap demonstration. That was interesting.

Shingster does that a lot, clearly his brain is so full knowledge, little folk like us cannot compareHungFist wrote:But I was a bit surprised that you tried tell me I shouldn't be telling my opinion, and that it was ignorant of me to publicly post such thoughts.

Well that wasn't my intention, sorry. I merely wanted to point out that just flippantly saying something along the lines of "this transfer is crap, it's contrast boosted, etc" was simply - from technical side of things - wrong. The point I was so clumsily trying to make is that you were taking your own personal subjective tastes when it comes to DVD transfers, and was condemning the remaster without taking a step back an asking yourself objectively if maybe the transfer is supposed to look that way. You then of course challenged my own comments, so naturally I had to back them up with that long-ass technical post. Anyway, I can assure you that at no point was I even remotely close to getting wound up.HungFist wrote:I'm afraid you're alone there making a big deal of this. Oh I know you never take offence, my comment was meant to mean that if I, or anyone else on these boards challenge your opinions boldly, it doesn't mean they're all pissed off and going for the jugular. Anything written in print seems harsher than intended, it's too impersonal a medium.Comoon Shing. You know I have never taken offence on this board (or any other) and constantly try to start debates. I might post some further thoughts on the comparison grabs tomorrow, but tbh brad's goading really IS beginning to piss me off now, so you'll have to forgive me if I decide to give this thread a wide birth from here on out!That would be nice.

No problem, Shing. I sometimes tend to make references to technical stuff that I don't really know much about and get the facts wrong. I also have a bad habit of trying to read people's minds... and think I'm successful at it.
)
That's true. The one time I can remember almost getting pissed was when people were blaming me for being dead serious in the dvdmystere thread when I really wasn't. It was a ridiculous situation (Fuck you assholes, I'm not serious. I'm totally calm, do you hear me!!!Shingster wrote:Anything written in print seems harsher than intended, it's too impersonal a medium.

Personally I thought the restoration looked fantastic as soon as I saw the comparisons. As I understand it, the film is supposed to have extreme blacks and golden hues, a bit like 300 I guess. You can see the deep blacks in the old release, especially in the second and fourth caps of the first film, but the muted colours ruin the look and render the blacks kind of pointless.
As mentioned, the old release was also noise-reduced (I think it was one of the early Lowry jobs). Can't wait for the Blu-ray release.
