I think I still have the Directors first workprint of Cliffhanger somewhere, shocking quality (almost unwatable), but it was a lot more nasty than the version we have anywhere in the world of Cliffhanger, or ever will.

I love the film myself, one wild ride and really would love to see some effort put into a Blu Ray version. Unless the transfer is stunning I wont bother upgrading from my dvd.

That's basically what I said. I didn't stipulate main feature or extra ;).

I know. Hence why I said "probably not" ;).
Markgway wrote:Yes, the BBFC is very lenient on violence these days... too much so IMO.
Not IMO. I prefer it how it is now than what it was before. 15 year olds are more intelligent than people give them credit. It's the parents responsibly not BBFC to make sure under 15s don't see a 15.
Markgway wrote:It's not just the amount of gore that decides a rating for me but the morality and tone of the act in question.
I believe the BBFC would agree with you there, they do go to great lengths to make sure the classification is correct. I don't think I've seen the scenes you describe but it's otherwise definitely a 15 rated movie.

I've seen some of the uncut footage. Hal's shotgun shooting of Travers is much better edited in the WP. Considering the level of extreme violence in Rambo, Cliffhanger could probably get an uncut 'R' now. I know they won't source the footage, but it would be awesome if they did, even as an extra. I imagine the BD will be exactly the same content wise as the SE DVD.
Unless the transfer is stunning I wont bother upgrading from my dvd.
Cliffhanger has never looked as spectacular as it should IMO. It's one movie I always watch and think: that should look better.

No. You asked me why I wanted a censored version? And I said I never did. I have no idea what your point is. Or if there is one?

The censorship used to be ridiculous in the UK, but I think the classification is too lenient now. And considering how much of a problem we have with violence in the UK, I'd be especially cautious allowing strong physical violence in under '18's. We know 15 years olds (and under) are going to see Cliffhanger, but that doesn't mean it should be a sanctioned activity. Scenes in which characters are repeatedly kicked in the head, face, and body whilst on the ground belong in an adult movie. Just MHO.

Mostly it is a '15', but there's one, specifically, maybe two at a stretch, scenes which shouldn't have been passed uncut at '15'.

I think we're getting our wires crossed between Censored Version and Censored Footage.

I've never bought into that there is a strong link or maybe even link between real life violence and movie violence.

WTF! Are you supposed to work out what the hell is going on?

I presume the difference is, the dude is shot in the back? How does he die in the R rated cut?

Yeah, it's a horrible workprint - worst I've ever seen, actually. The one for Die Hard 2 looks much better.

In the R-rated version it's Stallone who kills Travers. He shoots Travers with his bolt firing gun SEVERAL TIMES without explaining how he manages to reload it underwater. To achieve this they reuse the same shot of Stallone firing the gun about three times in a row. Lousy. Rooker no longer fires the shotgun. The NC-17 edit is much better. Like I said I'd love to see this on the BD.

IMO the film really isn't that good for me to care either way. It's no "who should shoot first? Han Solo or Greedo" :D.

Well I like the film if that's what you mean and I'd like to see the alternate footage but not enough to have babies over it, like Mark :D.

Yes it is good. I don't think it's as good as Die Hard but it's certainly a decent action flick, before CGI got right in the way. It was cut originally but it passed uncut only 10 days ago:

This will related specifically to the new upcoming Optimum BD and I guess DVD too.

Just so Grim knows that's a second hand title, not that there is anything to wrong about. I've used them a few times.

Thanks for the code Romero. No offence but why the bloody hell don't you post these as a matter of course? Strangely I get the Secondspin and Wherehouse newsletters and the current official code is just "free postage over $50". I deleted the e-mail.

Does the code have an expiration date? They normally do.

I never knew it was new to people! good job I told you now then :)

but I ordered plenty of stuff from them so far as a test, dvds, cds and Blu Rays. Some dvds are £1 delivered! they must loose cash on them.

Miami Vice Directors Cut edition £1 delivered! I never loved the film, but damn it was worth £1 just to see the slightly new cut.

Sadly I have no clue when it runs out :( hence why I orderexd loads quickly and spent a few hours searching thru tonnes of items.

Fair enough then.

20% off + Free postage is super rare for these two companies, usually it's one or the other.

Why cancel extras? Muppets.

Might as well buy the cheaper Lionsgate imports.

I doubt they were ever really coming.

Many of them have poor early release Picture Quality.

I'll still pick up The Fog but won't bother with T2 any more. I'll still get the German HD-DVD.
