Heard that the subs on the R1 aren't much good though (compared to HKL).
definitely true. R2 goes out to translate the amount of words equaling the amount of words in the subs and they make more sense. R1 translates less words while leaving out the rest unsubbed. This subtitling can be seen on other DD titles (such as Righting Wrongs).
Extras on both discs are of a good offering, but the Sammo interview and Bey commentary could be interesting to compare.
I think I'd choose the R2 commentary. Bey explains a literal line (similar to Dick Wei's famous line in Heart of Dragon) from Yuen Biao which was translated poorly on both releases (R1 comes close though) and takes place after Biao is thrown off the vehicle. Other than that, the extras on R1 are way superior (just for the deleted scenes alone).

The HKL has terrible edge-enhancement and is pinkified, but I enjoyed Logan's commentary a lot. Wasn't too fond of the movie at first, but after watching it with Logan's motormouth in the background I liked it a lot better.
