Note i dont think its the precise frame for the one with the Arkangel Dam jump and i had to turn something on for it to take the shot with the generated captions on.

I'll edit them in.

I can't take caps with player-generated subs or captions. So you're lucky.

Are you going to do the Ultimate Editon ones tomorrow?

Haha, well as you can see they look terrible.
As mentioned in the other post, I should be able to if I have time :)

Virtually identical, except maybe the colours of the dam in the Arkangel cap?

And a smidgen more info on the left of the R1?

Seems like a slight difference in contrast on the R1, things seem more clearer in the Dam USSR shot.

Bit more picture on the left too also, im fairly sure it was on the R2 but its the way MGM matted the picture, same thing happened with the R1 and R2 versions of Never Say Never Again, which is again an MGM DVD made around the same time as these SE's.

Also couldn't seem to find the exact frame for the shot where 006 is on the floor, have a small feeling a cut might have been done there somwhere.

The player generated captions on Goldeneye look awful. Forgotten how bad.
Might have to go R1 if I upgrade...

Apparently the Ultimate Edition is a disappointment... we'll have a an idea when MLAM posts his caps but I suspect I'll be keeping the R1.

Only that one review at the Australian site says that though Mark. But I won't upgrade till I see caps either. :)

The colours look duller on the PE, hiding details :? This is seen in the "Pierce" shot MLAM and the shot of Famke Jansen in the Ferrari.

Indeed Grim,

It's cropped somewhat too, check out the wide shot with Alec on the floor.

P.S your name is Simon isn't it?

Yeah that's right :D
Based on those shots I may not "upgrade GE", maybe double dip though. :?

Unsurprisingly the PAL R2 looks better but those subs look awful. Not that it bothers me when most films only have marginal captioning.

PE? Huh.

I had a feeling Grim meant that which is double funny when there are no UE screen shots??? :D

Brad look at the links in MLAM's post. He has posted links to the screenshots from the UE.

Grim PWNS Brad.

 :D

PWNS? LOL Oops 8)

Are those UE Screen shots accurate? It makes the DVD look awful which isn't mentioned in the DVD Times review.

Indeed it doesnt look as good as the SE. The colours look drab and the contrast is different.

Mark: Could you update the comparison please. I can if you wish but you know you want to :D

The skintones of Brosnan's face in UE Cap 3 looks more natural, but otherwise, oh dear! The cropping is terrible, even compared to Tomorrow Never Dies. Why?? On the plus side for the UE, it's sharpness is less artificial, see Cap 4, resulting in a smoother picture. But it's missing too much info and is too dark as well, again see Cap 3. R1 Cap 2 shows the missing captions, deliberatley designed to be golden. In fact, I've always thought the movie had a golden tint to it, which has been deemphasied in the UE. UE Cap 5 looks surprisingly soft, bordering on the blurry. UE Cap 6 is smoother again, but plain dull. What went wrong...?

The UE looks God-awful.
