Post by Markgway »

Bad news for anyone hoping to pick up the R2 release.

Violence Frequent, moderate, fantasy
Other None

When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 121m 13s.

To obtain this category cuts of 0m 7s were required. The cuts were Compulsory.
Cut required to remove a potentially dangerous imitable technique, in accordance with BBFC Policy and Guidelines and the Video Recordings Act, 1984.
>>>

Dumb asses... surely the film could've been an uncut '15'? Even though the previous video was a cut '15' the film has been screened uncut on TV about 30 times!! Yes, we all know putting an aerosal in the micro will cause it to explode. We're not fucking stupid and I would think most 15 year olds would be aware of the fact. Ironically the lowered 12 cert allows for the kind of violence (headbutting and face slashing) which is IMHO unsuitable for kids. Great job, BBFC. Let the kids see strong violence (it's not moderate, really) and spoil it for the collectors. Arses.

Big deal if the UK release is cut, just import the R1 or R4.

Haha, the cutting of headbutting. It's funny how only brits find it "unacceptable".

This is pretty damn stupid but it's not the BBFC's fault (assuming an uncut 15 was provided). The distributors got greedy and went for the censored 12 option.

About headbutts. Maybe Brits are the only ones aware of the consequences when kids copy what they see on screen. So many films portray headbutts as a harmless action - the opponent is slightly dazed but is back on their feet in no time. In reality, we all know that it can break the nose and cause serious injuries.

After cases of kids imitating headbutts on the playground, where some poor boy's bleeding like tap, it would make sense to provide a higher classification so that more mature & responsible members of the audience get to see headbutts only.

But as mentioned, importing the uncut discs seems to be the way forward.

Sounds like the film was submitted uncut. The cuts were compulsory meaning that they would be cut at any category. The old '15' tape was cut as same. The cuts are now 7s instead of 9s so I'm presuming the only swinging nunchaku cut has been waived.

Agreed. It's sad that the BBFC has been presurised into allowed headbutts into '12' films (ie. Batman Begins, which should've been a '15') Unlike a flying kick or some fancy martial art move, headbutts are easily imitible and not uncommon in playground fights.

Right you are. It's an R1 for me. 8)

What was cut from Batman Forever, Mark?
The first Batman was uncut right? (This was one of the first films to be given the new 12 cinema cert in 1989).

I'm not so sure about that... Wasn't Batman certified 15? Or was that just for home video release?

Yes, but not for the same cheap price :( I had it for 8 pound, its a lot more now, so will have to get the inferior R3 version instead. Ah well.

Why would the R3 version be worse :? I'd imagine for a big release like Begins, itd be made by the same company, no?
Is the video worse?

Its NTSC for starters and its R3 packaging. I prefer PAL and real english packaging and extras and the quality control of R3 dvds isnt up to the same standards as english dvds as many I have, have bugs here and there.

What was cut from Batman Forever, Mark?
1m, 38s of violence and threat.
The first Batman was uncut right? (This was one of the first films to be given the new 12 cinema cert in 1989).
Yes.
I'm not so sure about that... Wasn't Batman certified 15? Or was that just for home video release?
Just for video. The 12 cert for video wasn't introduced until 1994.
it was uncut in cinemas! thats a joke!
No, same cuts made for cinema and video. The DVD will be the same, but likely with the nunchaku swinging restored.
It was still cut by 9s in the cinema (the cinema version was 12 rated but iwerdly raised to 15 with the same cuts Romero.
Not wierd, it's because there was no 12 video rating at that time. The 12 given then and now is too lenient. It should be an uncut 15 IMO.
Yes, but not for the same cheap price I had it for 8 pound, its a lot more now, so will have to get the inferior R3 version instead. Ah well.
Always pays to read threads properly. Where did you get the R2 of Batman Begins for £8? Was it the 2-disc version?

It was the 2 dvd version as 99% of all countries only sell 2 dvd versions. It was from cdwow with the $ link which made it $15 hey most films are cheap with that $ link on the thread, as I have said many times :D

Do you think Batman Forever will still be cut Mark, or will the BBFC bump it up to a 12? :)

Impossible to say... could go either way really?

Incidentally -- and how's this for dumb? -- the Box Set will STILL be rated '15' because of one of the extras on the Batman Returns DVD.

You couldn't make this shit up.
