No no no, although I can understand why you think that.

DVD Beaver don't update their reviews when they compare an additional disc. Instead, they write a whole new review on top of their previous ones. In effect, the old reviews become void. But if you skim through the review, it does appear that they recommend the Criterion... however that's only an old review that is now void.

On the bottom table, they recommend the Korean.

I'll be getting the R4 (unless a new Criterion appears). That edge enhancement on the Criterion looks awful, check out the grass.

One thing I am sure of is both the Korean and R4 beat the Criterion. I've never managed to work out why they prefer the Criterion over the R4, it's clearly superior.

The R4 looks about the same as the Korean DVD to me BUT two things regarding the Korean DVD:

1. It's on 2 discs (to be avoided if it can be helped)
2. YELLOW Subs - WHAT THE FUCK!

I can live with (but don't like) yellow subs but on a Black and White film, what were they thinking? They would make the film barely watchable.

NO THANK YOU. Get the message :D

Agreed. The site layout is a mess and has been for sometime.

You do know that it's NTSC-PAL don't you? It may look fine interlaced, but it will look like arse in prog scan.

Finally bloody news of the Criterion new edition. The December 2005 newsletter says the Criterion will re-release Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro in 2006:-
