DVD Import, anyone used them?

Post by grim_tales »

What are their prices/service like? Shipping seems to be free to the UK (if you use ordinary mail, not UPS/Fedex).
Maybe an alternative to DVD Soon ;)

They are free shipping. I've heard mixed reports some here say they're bad but many over at DVD Forums say they're good. I've not tried them as usually CD WOW and DVD Pacific have been as cheap or cheaper but will do one day.

p.s - This is better suited in the Sales forum. I'll move it.

OK fair enough :)
I was thinking of using them because on some boxsets they are cheaper than WOW/Soon.

Personally I'd go for it.

Pre-ordered the Lois & Clark boxset. Was a few £ cheaper than the Soon. Shipped a couple of days after release, took about a week to arrive and no stamps from Mount Pleasant. Similar packaging to DVDsoon (bubblewrap plastic envelope).

All in all, seem quite reasonable to me ! :D

I have been using DVD Import recently because of their cheap prices and the unreliability of DVD Soon.

So far they have been excellent with very good delivery times, much quicker than DVD Pacific. They also have a stock count on items. The only downside is that like DVD Soon they take payment immediately rather than bill upon dispatch.

Ask on dvdforums as loads have used them,
and from what I have read they are one of the single worst etailers on the net in about every single way (but thats just people ranting I guess :) they could be superb!)

but from the sound of it they lie about how much the packages cost so they may get thru customs :) but that illegal so they will be shut down if they dont stop that.

I was looking at the site for the customs reason alone as to get TV sets thru customs is a godsent! :D so I want to know about the company too :) DVDSOON are cheaper on 99.9% of thinhgs for me, but customs is appauling for DVDSOON :( and the compay sucks at the moment I am not using them for a bit.

I don't mind being charged straight away if I am kept up to date and get the DVD in a reasonable amount of time.

Demented When you say DVD Pacific are slow I assume you use service mail? To be fair that's why it takes so long. I use it also but may use Air Mail next time (which I suspect DVD Import use).

That was a while ago. I asked in the last few months and heard nothing but praise from the guys at DVD Forums.

LOL that wouldn't get them shut down. At most they'll get a telling off and stop doing it. Customs don't have the power to shut people down or at least not that easily.

Quite a few e-tailors do this.

DVDs over at £18 I always e-mail CD WOW to ask if they'll stock it. I find even though CD WOW charge more for the DVD than other e-tailors might with no customs risk it most likely works out cheaper.

Hey read the new Customs laws! it is ILLEGAL and they can be prosocuted and anyone asking for companies to lower price to get thru customs is also liable to be prosicuted, so yes they can get shut down if you read the new rules. Yet I seriously dont expect them to enforce them, as I havent heard of anyone being done yet.

and as far as CDWOW go there prices for TV shows are a joke, wouldnt go near them with your cash, neevr mind mine :D Most the shows I get seem to always end up just over 20 pound  and for them few pounds over customs they ussually get a bill from customs for about 8 quid! grrrr

But if DVDIMPORT do not put real price on cover thats great and they then work out easily the cheapest place for TV shows, like Lost season 1, Alias Season 4, Oz Season 2,3,4,5 etc.. which I will order in a heartbeat if people confirm more that all packages have wrong price on :)

Who said it wasn't illegal?
and as far as CDWOW go there prices for TV shows are a joke, wouldnt go near them with your cash, neevr mind mine
Even after possible customs charges from other e-tailors? Surely not.

The thing with CD WOW is they're uber cheap for R3, the odd R4 title and CDs they sell but UK R2 and to a lesser extent R1 they can be bettered elsewhere.
I get seem to always end up just over 20 pound Twisted Evil and for them few pounds over customs they ussually get a bill from customs for about 8 quid!
So you're saying all the CD WOW TV box sets are over £28?

Not all, just the ones I want. Why pay any more than I have too? I see DVDIMPORT gets past customs and I could then get say for example Season 2 of OZ for 22 pounds, its 35 on cdwow and more other places, it was cheap as hell at dvdsoon :( but they lie about price on box so its bloody more!!!!!!!!

I never said you should. I didn't realise TV box sets were £35.

Why are you complaining so much you're still saving £7 ( 35 minus 28 ).

Yep they're very good, just expensive most of the time. I've used them twice.

I mainly use them for their cover art support now a days.
