It's directed by the same dudes who made the Infernal Affairs trilogy, they even use pretty much the same cast.

Thing is, everyone has Japanese names but speak Cantonese. Only one Japanese performer and that's Anne Suzuki (Hana and Alice, Returner). Jay Chou stars but is a Mandarin speaker - all his dialogue has been dubbed into Cantonese for the movie.

This looks like lots of fun. I can't see it beating Infernal Affairs but it doesn't need to.

Why give them Japanese names? Is it set in Japan? Set it in HK with Chinese names I say. Anne Suzuki (sp?) cool name.

I'm surprised it's not getting a HK release before a Chinese release!

It looks from the trailer that they atleast attempt to put parts of the story into it, but I REALLY hope this isn't just one car race after the other... and that they get real people to really drive those car as opposed to CGI and/or creative editing to make it look COOL and GREAT...

Great driving is best enjoyed unedited - at least that way you KNOW somebody really did that - instead of relying on safe angles and editing to make it look like they did...

... Could be cool though...

It depends who you ask and not exactly.

The laws aren't exactly the same yet (different film ratings) and Hong Kongese (like Taiwanese) don't like to be called Chinese, or at least some don't.

It's kind of like saying Britain is part of Europe. It is but then again to some it isn't.

That editing in that sequence is utterly fantastic. The chase still holds up today IMO.

Ronin definitely has the best car chase to date IMO. I just had to buy the UK SE w/ DTS after seeing it again on TV recently. The film is great too, Jean Reno and DeNiro ooze coolness and had great chemisty.

BTW The Bourne Supremacy is worth checking out for the bone-crunching chase through Moscow.

Actualyl, I think its illegal to import DVDs from china into hk. If ya get caught you could get a hefty fine.

And HK people not wanting to be known as chinese is a bit over the top, although they do refer to themselves as heung gong yun (hong kong people) sometimes, but its not like Taiwan.
