Aye I keep meaning to check out more of his stuff after being blown away by Fulltime Killer.
Breaking News I thought was great. Pretty damn ridiculous but yeah, I loved it regardless. Thoroughly enjoyable, some damn good shootouts. Gonna be keeping this.
Johnny To does make a few dodgy titles though. I watched Yesterday Once More and thought that was pretty whack... I want to watch Running on Karma again - I hear some people really adore this movie and I wanna know why. Hopefully a 2nd viewing will allow me to seek some deep message or something.

Isn't it JohnnIE To ?
I think his best movie is by far Running on Karma. It really deserves to be in my "most meaningful movies top 5" along with Legend of Zu, Casshern, Green Snake and 2046.
Other JT titles worth checking out IMO:
-Breaking News.
-The Mission.
-Fulltime Killer.
-Mad Monk. (
)
-Heroic Trio.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

"Heroic Trio" is one hell of a great fantasy-action-cartoon-drama starring Michelle Yeoh, Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung. One of my favourite scenes include Maggie Cheung fighting a bad guy by using her motorbike as a weapon. No, she does not run over him with it, but keeps on throwing it at him.
One of Johnnie To's earlier efforts is "All about Ah Long". A very touching drama which he did a great job on. It doesn't seem like his modern dramas, like they are being made to finance his great action films. Also, one of Chow Yun-fat's best dramas in my opinion.
"PTU - Police Tactical Unit" is also great!

Re: Breaking News (Johnny To)
I really like his films and his "rom com" collaboration with Wai Ka Fai has pulled out some amazing gems like Needing You, Yesterday Once More (yeah I really liked this) and Fat Choi Spirit is one of my fave HK flicks ever!
I think it should be noted that whatever you think of him as a director, his quality and output is pretty damn good with him having made 15 films in the time it took Wong Kar Wai to make a single "2046" film!
I had lunch with him once a while back. He came across as a nice guy.
