So, Miike made a G-rated (yeah, the lowest possible rating) film based on a controversial splatter manga. I had a bad feeling about this from the beginning...

Yeah, this looks atrocious. I fell asleep 20 minutes into Yaluza Apocalypse. Somehow I still have some hope for his upcoming Blade of the Immortal adaptatipn (probably because of how much I love 13 Assassins) but if he screws that up too I may just have to finally give up on my erstwhile "favorite director in the whole world*".

DVD/BD release on September 2nd. There'll be standard editions and a premium edition, pictured below.

PS: The film will have its North American premiere at the Fantasia film festival on July 16th.

PPS: How did this do theatrically in Japan anyway?

Not terribly well. Opened 7th on box office, then fell to 10th place on the following week and then disappeared from the Top 10 list.

I found out recently that a YouTube J-Vlogger, Sharla in Japan, worked on the film as an English dialogue coach for Tomohisa Yamashita, who plays Jim Muto.
