Jackie Chan's "Gorgeous" - any good?
Is the Jackie Chan flick, "Gorgeous" any good? I've read that it's pretty awful but would like your opinions please.
I've seen the R4 Sony DVD going for $12NZ - very cheap. The specs sound good:- 2.35:1 Anamorphic, Catonese 5.1, Jackie commentary.

It really depends on how much of a Jackie fan you are. Personally, I found parts of it really embarrassing to watch since he's on such a big ego trip in this one. Jackie Chan is fighter, not a lover, and he just looks sooooo uncomfortable whenever he has to do a romantic scene of any sort. Shu Qi isn't too bad in it, but she's done far better acting in Viva Erotica and Love is Not a Game, but a Joke.
Also, a word about Tony Leung's performance: If you've seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, you'll probably understand why Mr. Yunioshi is Mickey Rooney's most regrettable film role. I'm wondering if some day Tony Leung might look back on his portrayal of Albert, the gay friend, as his most regrettable role. The stereotyping just makes you wince. It really blows my mind that an actor of his caliber would even take on this role, especially after acting opposite Leslie Cheung as his lover in Wong Kar Wai's Happy Together.
Anyway, that's my opinion. Others will probably disagree, as usual.

It's a while ago when I've seen the movie. i thought it was pretty good. Better then the crap Jackie usually makes (since 94 or something). Dont go in expecting an action-movie, and you'll be fine. It's a nice romantic comedy with some action in it. Nice cameo by Chow Sing Chi as well ...
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Forgive my ignorance 68M but why is Mickey Rooney's role in BaT regrettable? I havent seen the film before.
I agree with Yi, Gorgeous was pretty good. Quite sweet, with some action and "awww" moments.
We're talking about the uncut version though, the one with commentary by Chan is the international version (about 20 mins shorter).

The action in the film (although not action packed) is of a very high standard. The 2 one-on-one fight scenes between JC & Brad Allen are excellent.
Just a note. Don't watch the UK dubbed version. This is the first version of the film I saw and it sucked. I then bought the HK dvd cantonese version and now I really like it.
