The HKL DVD is crap and heavily cropped, and most other releases of the film a few years ago were a longer version, which is whats been released on BD
Why isnt there a 'good quality' release of Police Story 2?

I mean of the theatrical cut, on BD or even DVD, thats English friendly.

I dont mind the Japanese version but I'd like a choice.

Re: Why isnt there a 'good quality' release of Police Story
Fortune Star probably only remastered the Japanese cut, so other companies just use their print instead of playing a lot of money to remaster the HK cut. That's just a guess, but that's probably how it is.

Pretty sure you're right.HungFist wrote:Fortune Star probably only remastered the Japanese cut, so other companies just use their print instead of playing a lot of money to remaster the HK cut. That's just a guess, but that's probably how it is.
Fortune Star are only offering the extended cut as that's the only one they remastered.
The best version of the theatrical cut is the OOP Deltamac DVD (only drawback is that it's letterboxed).

The best version of the HK Cut is probably the custom on ADC.

Re: Why isnt there a 'good quality' release of Police Story
Thanks Mark
I hope that one's an improvement - can a badly cropped anamorphic picture look worse than an upcropped non anamorphic image?
Its been so long I'm not even sure if I can zoom the picture on my TV
@Sam whats different about the custom version?
I've tried getting into ADC in the past, but seemingly I have to answer some questions checking whether I know all about torrents etc
My virus scanner doesnt like it.
*EDIT* - found it now (I think), do you have a direct link? I typed in "Police Story 2" but got hundreds of results back. Thanks

I have recreated the original 105 minute Hong Kong version of this film, using the Fortune Star transfer of the extended cut (sourced from the HK Blu-ray) with the missing shots pulled from an old French DVD. I sourced the original mono mix from a VHS that I found. There were some glitches in the audio. I tried to fix most of them, but a few remain. I've also included the audio tracks and English subtitles from the Hong Kong Legends DVD. The Mandarin track was sourced from the Deltamac DVD. There seems to be a bug in VLC player that causes this DVD to play at the wrong resolution. If that happens, just right-click and set aspect ratio to 16:9. This problem doesn't seem to occur in any other player. Enjoy!
Audio Tracks:
#1 Cantonese Original Mono
#2 Cantonese 5.1 Remix
#3 English Dub
#4 Mandarin
#5 Audio Commentary by Miles Wood and Jude Poyer
Subtitles:

ADC projects are usually exclusive.
When I said that the Deltamac was the best option, I obviously meant from legally available sources.

Yes. Just make sure the file size matches the DVD-R/BD-R.grim_tales wrote:Cheers, I'll try it later

if you manage to download it be aware it's a dvd-9 file so you'll need a dual layer blank

Re: Why isnt there a 'good quality' release of Police Story
Site says theres still a backlog on applications so I cant join yet, I'll give it a few more days.
As for the DMII BD, that sounds very good, I wonder if it can be done for DVD too? I have the old Thakral (sp?) disc but it's cropped.

By the "blind boxing" scene, is that the final gag at the end?
