Any opinions on these Alex Man flicks? It's hard to gauge the overall quality from bits on youtube and crap reviews on HKMDB.
GANGLAND ODDYSEY 1988 (not the Andy Lau one from 1990 which he was also in)
ONE WAY TICKET TO BANGKOK 1988
THE LAST DUEL 1989
FIRE PHOENIX 1990
KING OF GAMBLER 1990
THE SNIPING 1990
RETURN TO ACTION 1990
DRAGON FIGHTER 1990
HEROIC BROTHERS 1991
BLOODY HERO 1991
THE KILLER FROM CHINA 1991
BLOODY REVENGE 1992
THE MIGHTY GAMBLER 1992
Thoughts, faded memories, links to more info... anything is appreciated.
Thanks

More or less the same response I got on KFC when I posted a similar thread back in the day

Though sometimes this is to be expected especially as we delve into esoteric depthsRetroRobot wrote:More or less the same response I got on KFC when I posted a similar thread back in the day![]()
EDIT: Then again Mark has seen several of those

Re: Alex Man films- Any opinions?
Yeah, wasn't really expecting much response, hence the jokey bump.
But thanks for chiming in, and thanks for the star ratings, Mark. I assume it's the five scale were talking here, or these are pretty bad
I think I saw Last Duel and Dragon Fighter back in the 90's and I think I liked them. Though those memories are hazy. I realise these are all B-level and under, but if the action ratio is generous and well done, im not too fussed.
Pretty sure Big Rogie has most of these, so I guess i'll just blind buy them with my next batch.

I always use the (****) Maltin scale.RetroRobot wrote:thanks for the star ratings, Mark. I assume it's the five scale were talking here, or these are pretty bad![]()
So yeah, some of them are pretty bad.
The ** ones are probably watchable.
Most of these films I saw a long time ago.

Oh it's out of 4, well, then they're better than I thought
If they have some nice action, passable melodrama between shootouts and punch-ups, and that certain late 80's-early 90's vibe, im good. Pretty sure Dragon Fighter is the best of the bunch. I seem to remember enjoying that. And Tony Liu directed, he has never really disappointed me up to now.
