CEX is my High Street visit of choice currently.

CEX are a bit shit TBH.

My local one has been a open a few months and I've bought ONE item thus far and it was scratched to fuck.

Prices for BDs are ridiculous. I swear I've seen NEW items cheaper in HMV!

At my local CeX they don't accept scratched discs, I saw a guy getting irate because of it haha. Also my CeX probably isn't shit because I'm always taking in Masters of Cinema Blu-rays and stuff, I provide them with the coolest inventory around!

HMV only have themselves to blame TBH, their prices were often ridiculous.

HMV had some very quirky and inconsistant pricing ...but IMO they didn't somehow 'owe' us to be cheapest on everything.

They get a lot of hate and most of it is undeserved.

A great shop on the whole and the end of an era if they really go.

Never had an issue with anything i've had from CEX. There's 3 local to me and they are very picky when you trade stuff so i'm surprised scratched to buggery stuff gets through.Do a lot of trading there, currently got £70 in credit.New releases are pricey but if you wait they drop..E.T. is £8 at the moment for example.

Here in Hong Kong I always like going into a HMV and browse around. Prices are reasonable, with often some bargains.

Didn't use the website much. Those prices were pretty high and compared to amazon/zavvi not worth it.

I have a lot of CEX credit to use up as well still.
I'm sorry to see HMV go too, its just that they were (imo) overpriced.
When I've been in there my local one always seems pretty busy.

HMV was actually pretty good for 3 for £20 blu ray offers. I do know from experience a lot of people I know stopped going in the late 90s due to stupid markups.

Mine is always busy.

Soon Amazon will be virtually all that'll be left. they'll have virtually no competition so won't feel the need tp price match,prices will rise.Sure there's the likes of Zavvi stil around, i'm still waiting for them to send me my pre-order of Southern Comfort which came out in November 2012

Seriously though I bought a 3-disc set and all 3 discs were scratched.
I only bought it because it was OOP; otherwise you're not saving any cash shopping there.

I grew up in the pre-internet age when record/video shops were the ONLY place to buy/rent CDs and tapes. These shops were a key part of my youth and I hate to see them wiped out like the proverbial dinosaurs.

i can't remember the last time i handed over cash in a cex. it's ideal for trading in discs and getting credit.not everything is uber priced either-they occasionally get job lots of new stuff as well-i got 48 Hours for a fiver there which was the cheapest i'd seen it.

I got Bad Lieutenant on Blu ray for 3 quid there the other day. MINT

they wouldn't be advertised as new-but when you suddenly see 25 copies of a title on the shelf then it's new.One of my local ones has just got in about 30 copies of Rumble In The Bronx BD for £3.50. Drunken Master 2 ditto but that one's £4.

being a frequent visitor i know some of the staff there..trust me they get new stock in as job lots but can't advertise them as such...Rumble In The Bronx is not a title 30 people in Liverpool are going to trade in overnight lol
