By all accounts the Tartan Collector's Edition's PQ wasn't much better than the previous DVD making the German DVD still the one to go for. Having said that it looks pretty good to me:

I wonder how the Tartan CE compares to the German DVD?

Sounds good. Since it's from a major US publisher, the restored transfer should be the best one to date.

I've been keen to see this one, but haven't yet cuz reportedly the PQ on the R4 is really awful.

Lion's Gate shouldn't botch this one up like they reportedly did with George Romero's Martin SE - the Romero's prefered OAR was unmatted 4:3, but the LG DVD has it horizontally cropped to 1.85.

I've got the Tartan CE release, and had the original, and have to say the new transfer is good, not excellent, but they have put some effort into it. To be honest i'm not getting another release as i am more than happy with the tartan release.
