Joy Sales?

Post by SpearheadBT »

I read somewhere that Joy Sales were back at releasing dvds. I was kinda disappointed they left some releases in the dark, particularly the dvd release of On the Run which was only released on VCD, but was supposed to have the dvd treatment (possibly a remaster) with the original ending too. Anyone got any info on this? I'd love to have that film, but if I want a decent dvd release with the ending I have no choice but to buy the french version which is both expensive and complicated to play.

Theres a huge gap in the market for an English language friendly distributer to release the films but it seems no ones interested in HK movies lately

Yeah, it's weird some of the best releases are for the French or German market. Fortunately for me my mothertongue is french, so my biggest concern is playing a pricey PAL dvd, but still. And I'm learning german, maybe that will help me hehe. But yeah, my brother got some HK Dvd Tsui Hark films, and they're all very well done on every aspect. The ''trilogy of chaos'' one is particularly good with some of his hard to find early movies and both versions of Dangerous Encounters. Hell, I'm wondering if these movies were even released as NTSC dvds...

But yeah, Joy Sales should be back at it considering all the releases I have from them are nice, even if they are not remastered or contain any bonus material.

For ages I held off getting the Joy Sales "Legendary" stuff as they're PAL-NTSC but seeing as how no-one else has touched them and they were going for a fiver each on ebay, I thought "when in Rome..."

And hell, I've been waiting to see Comet Strikes for 10 years!

Yeah, the Asian DVD Guide is dead and lots of the HK cinema web scenes seems pretty cold compared to when I jumped in. HK cinema itself is pretty dead, sadly, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Yeah, I used to check it when I was first digging in, but it's not rare I come across versions which are not even listed, or films which are not even listed.

I have to admit, I still get a lot of my kung fu joy from the old 4:3 pan'scan stuff, simply because often they are the most fun films. I still pick up old vhs tapes - trust me, Bruce Lee Against Supermen is AWESOME!

I could hardly stand that crap when there were no proper alternatives. I'm certainly not willing to go back to that. My ears still hurt from the horrible dubs those movies received, and as far as action went, you could hardly see anything cause most of the footage was cut out of the frame.

Yeah couple friends of mine are so into VHS nostalgia they'd watch a classic tape over blu-ray.

Needless to say they don't go on forums nitpicking releases

I sort of understand this, I still wish there were DVDs that preserved the original English dubs of Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla for my nostalgia purposes.
